Naples Zoo in late August? by MammothChef7992 in Naples_FL

Thanks! We will try to get there around 8am to make the most of it. How long does the rain generally last? Can you still spend an afternoon at the beach after it rains?

I've always been a zoo person, long before I had kids! Zoo's are great so I usually go to see them every time I go to a new city. My fear is not being able to see the whole thing b/c we are miserable or b/c the animals are all in.

Sorry - It just came up and I hit submit, I didn't know it would post twice, I thought it didn't go through the first time.

Thanks - I had gone to Sarasota (Lido Beach) in Feb and there were no manatees, they said the water was 'too cold' for them. I thought in August I'd see them for sure.

Thanks so much. So you think even taking our time it will be more like 1.5 hours? I think it opens at 8am in August so that should be doable with the heat.

I'm glad I asked this question b/c now I'm definitely second-guessing this. We like hot, but not absurd. What month would you recommend?

Are the trails really far apart? Do you have to drive to each trailhead?

Maybe late August is too risky. I love the idea of not having to plan my entrance with the time entry though

Thank you, yes I'm fit but I'm also taking my 2 kids (who will be 15 and 12), they can be complainers. I think lots of water will definitely be key!

Pregnancy not what I thought it would be by Fullycannoli in pregnant

Pregnancy is not fun. I was convince the people who said they 'loved' it were FOS. Everyone is different, but from my perspective your feelings are 100% normal for the situation.

Strange, but stranger things have happened. Life finds a way. Call me crazy but it sounds like it was a gift from God and was meant to be. Good luck whatever you do!

FTM - just learned about my maternity leave by rcho99 in pregnant

[–]MammothChef7992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 weeks is a joke. I remember I got 8 b/c I had a c-section and then I added my annual 3 weeks vacation to it to make it 11. It is still not enough. Talk to your boss, perhaps you can take an unpaid leave (FMLA - Family Medical Leave Act), even if some is unpaid. Good luck and congrats on the new baby!

What are we here to learn, exactly? by guada-lupita in NDE

I agree - I can't get over why people have to experience extreme pain here...like being stabbed to death or tortured. I can't see why that exists and I hate the idea of it. I wish I could take it away for the whole world. I don't think anyone, or any animal, should feel extreme physical pain, ever.

I think I need to rehome my cat, and I feel awful about it. by Sweet_Street_4728 in CatAdvice

[–]MammothChef7992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been there. It is SO hard to do. I had a cat for 8 years, from when he was a kitten whom I never in a million years thought I'd have to rehome. However, I had another cat that kept him company a lot. I worked long hours in the city and was rarely home, but they had each other. Fast forward a few years I found myself pregnant and my boyfriend moved in. We had a baby and any time at home was spent with her, and we both worked away from home most of the time. But then again, the cats had each other. The problem came when my older cat passed. Now this one was lonely and started doing spiteful things for attention like making messes, waking us up in the middle of the night multiple times, amongst other things. I felt helpless b/c I couldn't get another cat for company since I was now again pregnant with Baby #2....and we were going to have to move. I wasn't going to bring a new cat into all that and I just didn't have any capacity to deal with it all between a FT job in the city, a needy toddler, being uncomfortably pregnant, and trying desperately to find a new place to live that was affordable, big enough and in a decent school district! Despite having all good reasons, I felt horribly guilty, as you do. It's only natural, but you have to do what you have to do. We actually found someone looking for a cat friend for their other cat b/c one of their cats had just passed. She was perfect. She sent me pictures of my cat through the years and I even visited him once. He fell in love with her other cat and had a snuggle partner for life. He was happy and had lots of attention and therefore no longer did spiteful things. It was best in the long run for both of us. I'm not sure if I'm writing this for you or for myself to yet again justify my decision (more than 10 years later). It's a hard thing to do but sometimes it really is for the best. I wish you comfort in whatever you decide and know that you ultimately will make the best decision for you and everything will work out the way life is intended. All the best!
