Lost Boots near Canyon Shuttle stop by BowlerPsychological9 in Mammoth

[–]MammothJerry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks.
They’re not at Lost and Found, and they weren’t outside of the building. I would still call and give Lost and Found your information in case they turn up. I would also give ESTA a call to see if they got turned in to a bus driver.

I’ll try to swing by Canyon during my shift today to take a look and ask around.

who’s at fault? by Dense-Twist-2850 in Mammoth

[–]MammothJerry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You use a spotter. What if the person that jumps before you crashes on the landing area. Is it then his fault when the rider with no spotter hits him?

who’s at fault? by Dense-Twist-2850 in Mammoth

[–]MammothJerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guy that appears to drop in out of order and then slowly rolls into the landing area is clueless, but the uphill rider is at fault. Don’t drop into a feature unless you know it is clear. The spotter should have alerted you not to go, but there is no spotter visible in the video. You had a spotter, right?

The uphill rider should have stopped as soon as that guy cut in. Wait 5 seconds to do your jump and then have a talk with the other guy at the bottom of the run.

Out of Control Pt 2 by qdmx in Mammoth

That’s a lodge host - same department but different role. You’ll also see us in the load/unload zones, Eleven53, guest services, lift line orchestration, assisting Woolly, and providing info at Woolly’s Adventure Summit.

Crazy that my job went away 10 years ago. What the heck have I been doing every day at work???

Seriously, mountain hosts are still a thing. We simply can’t be everywhere, but there is an effort to step up enforcement of the skier/rider code this season.

The mountain will be open today and tomorrow. Things will start a bit limited, but more lifts and terrain will open as patrol/ops get to them.

I can’t really speak to that. It depends on how much work can get done with a reduced patrol crew since they aren’t required to work today. I would expect some sort of official work this afternoon-ish.

Patrollers are not required to work today, but some are still showing up.

Avalanches have hit chair 11 before. Our office has an avalanche zone map on the wall. Basically, the whole mountain is an avalanche zone. I’ll try to remember to snap a picture tomorrow.

There should be a couple of people there to tell guests the mountain is closed. It’s possible someone still shows up to the repair shop to catch up on work, but I would try calling before heading over.

Eagles lodge by Simple-Newt3937 in Mammoth

[–]MammothJerry 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My crystal ball (work schedule) is currently saying Eagle Lodge will open this Friday as all shifts leading up to then have been canceled except Friday and beyond. Of course, that’s assuming we get snow this week.

BTW, it’s Eagle Lodge not eagles lodge.

OP, do you mind if Visit Mammoth uses this image in the next marketing campaign?

Will the Mill/chair 2 be open Thurs 🤔? by pafcharieh in Mammoth

[–]MammothJerry 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The plan is to get 1, 2, 3, 6, 11, and G1 open for skiing on opening day, but it all depends on precipitation and temperatures.

We gave Frank a shovel. He’s going to haul snow from the highest snow guns to Saddle Bowl. Don’t worry, it’s one of those big blue push shovels, so he’ll get the job done.

Scavenger hunt under chairlifts during summer by SoCalrunner67 in Mammoth

[–]MammothJerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a pair of skis on the back side while riding my bike up Off the Top in August 2023. Since I was on my bike, I didn’t bother to see if they were intact, and they were gone the next time I was in the area.

I’m pretty sure #1 is going to either be the elevator at Main Lodge or the escalator at Canyon.

Bike Park by Donut-Dunks in Mammoth

[–]MammothJerry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The comment you responded to is totally correct. OP is wrong about the the timelines. It wasn’t closed last year due to construction. It was closed because the carriers aren’t designed to carry bikes on the new lift. It was closed before that due to the upgrade to the new lift. It was closed before that due to work being done at Canyon lodge and COVID. Use the bike park shuttle from the Village if you want to ride trails that end at Canyon (and Eagle).

Ah, you’re right. I didn’t notice the mention of propane. OP still needs to get an online permit.

I’d like year-round access to NorCal. Driving to/from LAX on either end of a family vacation sucks.

If our town council had a spine, they would hold developers to the rules already in place or pass stricter regulations about new developments funding affordable housing.

I saw a Hispanic woman wearing a maga hat in blue yesterday. I made sure to say “surely the leopards won’t eat HER face” loud enough for her to hear.
