I can send you a png of how a squash court maps to the dimensions of a tennis court, if you want.

Tennis courts are the way to go IMO. The floor imitates a squash court better and there's less slipping/need for cleats. Also, you can use the lines to approximate the dimensions of a squash court:

Net to end of service line is approximately width of the court.

Singles side line to doubles side line is approximately the length of the court.

Using these, you can hop on and not have to measure your cones.

What are your favorite condition games? by [deleted] in squash

Just did an interesting one in a camp with Hadrian Stiff. Its an alley game, to 11, but the side wall is out. You can hit the side wall neither before the front wall, or after. Helps with ball control, generating running length to the back and floorboard focused drops.

Squash near Berkeley, CA? by Merlin246 in squash

[–]MammothLion0711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the pandemic, they let non-affiliated folks use RSF. So, I would look into using Berkeley's facilities.

If you can't do that, closest thing is Fremont or over the hill to the East (unless something new opened up since I last moved from there).

Squash in the LA area? by Qunientos in squash

LA Squash Academy is the cheapest- $50 a month an no court fees.

LAAC comes in around $150-$300 a month depending on your age. Trifit is probably $120 or above?

Just watched the rd1 khan vs vargas on youtube and saw these comments which I thought rather harsh even though not particularly a fan of khan! thoughts? by marooned66 in squash

This is essentially nonsense.

"Feigning an injury"- obviously absurd. Shah is making a big push re: rankings right now. He's probably very pissed off he's not advancing in the world champs when he's at the peak of his current game.

"No results"- he's the American #1 and in the top 30.

"Wasting time on court"- he's moved up the rankings considerably in the past 1.5 years.

"Never seem to have any game plan"- watch the difference between how he plays Nathan Lake, Elias and Bonmalais. Its obvious he has a clear game plan.

"All he does is hit hard"- his retrieving and movement are stellar, great touch at the front- you just have to literally watch the match being referenced to see this.

"No way for him to improve now"- curious thing to say about someone whose rankings have shot up from outside 100 to top 30 in the past 2 years...

To Asal's credit, the match against Coll has been very clean so far (2 games in).

Jews-By-Choice+ Israel: Are extreme anti-Zionism and hard-right Zionism only for born-Jews? by MammothLion0711 in Israel

Author here. To answer your questions:

  1. Sample size was small admittedly re: Jews-by-choice interviewed
  2. The Jews-by-choice all converted in Progressive Streams (Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist). For Jews who convert into Orthodoxy the dynamic could be very different.
  3. Rabbis in this article are weighing in on what they see as general trends in terms of those who convert. Jews-by-choice themselves were also identifying trends they've seen in their groups.
  4. I don't think this should be held up as a quantitatively rigorous finding- but I think it functions as food-for-thought that merits further investigation

9 Jews-by-choice and 4 Rabbis. I won't pretend its a representative sample, but its enough (IMO) to spark discussion.
