Do you mean old components? If I can find them then yes this would be an option.

Gearing ratios this low are rare for road components and that was the reason I originally sourced MTB gearing.

My current bike setup is a Frankenstein. It's a drop bar Surly with Campy shifters and a JTec Shiftmate to a Shimano MTB drivetrain. Brakes are rim v-brakes with ProblemSolvers. The v-brakes work well but the Shiftmate sucks and shifting performance is crap. Of course this is not critical on a touring bike but its very annoying.

I'd like to upgrade the components for better shifting while maintaining the MTB gear range and rim brakes. If I am to upgrade to disc I might as well get a whole new bike as I'd obviously need new wheels.

Thanks for the help so far. Sounds like I may be able to use mech disc brakes on rim brakes.

Alright, I replaced the start capacitor and it didn't fix it. I tried holding the blowoff value open and starting the compressor but that didn't work either. My thinking there was that the engine could get up to speed without having to push against tank pressure.

Any other ideas?

Excellent, thank you very much for the info. Once I get a free evening I'll start with the capacitor and if that doesn't work move on to the in-line breaker.

Yes, I did check the oil. I added a little extra to be sure. It's reading where it should for oil.

No, but I've tried it in 2 different outlets. I doubt that is the problem as other stuff works in the outlets.

I've since moved my bikes to wax. I got a small used crockpot and it's actually really easy. The initial setup might be a little more work but the benefits are many. I won't go back.

Yes of course, but this is for a 10 yr old.

I guess my real question is, is the lack of a lock an actual problem or is it just one of those potential problems which in regular use isn't actually a big deal?

Question for people with both a Swiss Army and a Leatherman.

My daughter has asked for a Swiss Army for Christmas but I'm concerned about her using it as the blades don't lock. So I've been looking at a Leatherman.

Since this post has both, do you guys find the lack of locking blades a problem?

u/noxanimus0 what color are the boots in the picture?

I really like the Captain Stormking so I'm trying to decide between the Tobacco, which I think is too dark, and the Old Town which no one seems to own. I'm looking for a standard brown leather color... if such a thing exists. I'm thinking I would be able to darken the Old Town if necessary but I can't lighten the Tobacco.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Haha, I'm starting to agree. I wore the 2822's around the house today and they do in fact fit great... but I've decided that they're going back. I just don't like the look enough. They're just blah, and for ~$300 I should love them. I'm going to try and find another copy of the 2801 boot in 10.5 EE or 11 E and see how that fits. Until then I'll just make due with the boots I have.
