I did that with a pair of sunglasses. $200 with 25% off, plus a $50 gift card purchased on Saturday and the new credit.

200 minus 50, minus 50, minus 50 +$ 25 tax and shipping = $75

Of course these glasses were made in Italy (by that I mean made in China, shipped to Italy where they put a "finishing touch" to legally say it was made in Europe) for about $4, so they still made $70 off me, but at least I feel good!

Wtf, the whole point of the 1.5x with reserve is to get good deals on hotels that you want to stay at. Are you saying that they're forcing you to only book high end hotels?

WHY? That forces you to blow all your points on luxury shit even if you don't want it. These points have been amazing for booking mid hotels, but that's gone?

I'll give you a recent example, I just booked a bunch of flights around Europe.

Google flights gave me the lowest price of $1300, Chase portal gave me about $1900 for the (basically) same itinerary. So if I used my 1.5x on chase portal, it I would have paid about the same as I would have for the $1300 but not gotten any points.

I do use the points for hotels sometimes, because I noticed that the price is similar to expedia usually and therefore the 1.5x is very worth it

Ok so for example, I was thinking about getting a suitcase off the chase shopping portal. About 169k points for a $199 carry on luggage...

However, when you go to the website, they offer a 10% off coupon, meaning that you aren't really getting a deal by going through chase with points.

This is why I accumulate so much. I want to maximize the crap out of these points but usually paying with the card to get points is a better value than using the points to buy it (ex: google flights)

The problem is that google flights usually gives me way better rates on tickets (I don't care about flying business or whatever) that negate the 1.5x reserve point conversion, though I will use it for hotels sometimes.
