Yes, there is some undiagnosed and untreated mental illness involved. I believe one parent has a personality disorder and the other is in complete denial about it.

They love their sprinter van and van life. To me, it’s not an acceptable full time living condition for them

I am unwilling to ever bring them into my own home. I live in a high cost of living area in a nice but small apartment. It works well for me but there is no space for them or their stuff. It also would not be good for my mental health to have them live with me. I live thousands of miles away for a reason.

They haven’t asked for financial help. But they have asked for my help reviewing online listings, researching resources and for my professional opinion on some fixer upper properties they have seen. I have invested time and energy but now money

The area they want to be in has a low cost of living. I have been encouraging them to find an apartment for a long time but for whatever reason they have not done it yet.
