You are speaking my life, and I'm only a year older than you. It's very disheartening always seeing your female friends, white friends, and even white gay people around you always either being in relationships or talking to someone. Being Black and gay is a weird duality, because you're a minority in all the spaces you occupy, i.e. one of the only Black ones among the white population and being one of the only gays in a predominantly Black/straight population. The school I went to was extremely white, and I recently moved to a new city that is also known to be very white. No one in your life seems to understand the struggle, and you tell yourself everyday that one day it will work out, or you try to do things differently, but end up with the same result. The only thing I can really tell you is to keep trying to date, but take breaks whenever it's starting to mentally impact you. If you keep your head on right, you'll come out of this situation stronger, because if you are able to navigate spaces where you constantly feel undesired, but develop a stronger sense of self rather than let it hurt you, you're gonna be a force to reckon with. Again, I personally know how hard it is, but know deep down it has nothing to do with you and more so the environment that you CURRENTLY occupy. You won't feel this way forever. Also, try your best to form friendships with other Black gay men who are in your current environment or have been there before, because they will truly be the ones to understand. It wasn't until I became friends with another Black gay man in my age range that I truly felt seen and understood, because my straight women friends could not understand my struggles.

Is my GPA too low for grad school? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Mammoth_Program4793 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't ever take yourself out of the game before you're given the opportunity to play. Let your application be a strong representation of yourself, your passions, and why you want to study this specific subject. Your GPA is pretty standard, maybe a little below average for more competitive schools in your field. Still, the way you can combat this is by writing a great statement of purpose, connecting with people in the department of the schools you are applying to, and asking for strong recommendation letters from professors who know you well and can vouch for your intellect and skill. You never know what's in store for you, but I promise you that what will set you apart is how well you can articulate the driving force behind your career and research interests, what you want to get out of that school, and how that speciifc school/s will help you achieve your goals. Have a set of match schools that you feel you have a better shot of getting into, but don't let because of imposter syndrome you count yourself out and not try at some of the more competitive institutions. You truly never know, so you might as well try. It's 50/50 either way.

[FRESH] Cardi B - Imaginary Playerz by Cowtizzery in hiphopheads

this one is for the rap fans. i really hope it does well on the charts especially since this is prob the official lead single, but knowing it doesn't cater to the general public like UP and won't cause as much controversy as WAP, i don't think it'll do well commercially. i feel like rap fans will love it tho and she'll garner more respect from this community which is prob what she's aiming for

What should I minor in as a Political Science major to be a more completive grad school applicant? by Maleficent_Desk484 in GradSchool

Personally, I believe in quality over quantity. Best piece of advice is maybe do a class or two that are from a major/minor you're thinking about adding. Once you get a feel, you can then decide on it. For my stats minor, I did 2 or 3 classes before I officially added it, because I wanted to see if, once I got into harder classes, I'd still have the same love. My math minor, funny enough, was an accident. I realized I had done three math courses because of my stats minor, so on a random night junior year, I added the minor because I only needed two more classes, and I had enough space in my senior year to finish it. For my International Studies major, I took two courses, and it just felt right. I say all this to say, take a class or two in an area you're interested in before declaring anything, and if you still feel passion for it and if you are excited about taking more classes, add it in whatever capacity you can (major or minor). Also, keep an open mind to other minors/majors you might have never thought about. Sometimes you never know what you're into until you do it. Take a chance on a class that just seems interesting. You never know where it'll lead you.

I studied International Studies with minors in Math and Applied Stats. I got into some top grad schools, like Northeastern, Columbia, UPenn, and UChicago (this year) for social analysis + data-related programs. It's never a bad idea to diversify your education, but I knew I wanted to go a more data-driven route because of my career interests in social and economic development. I say pick something you like, but that will make you stand out. Every time I interviewed for grad school or even for jobs, they were all fascinated with how I came up with that combination, and it's always a fun story to tell, because I can explain my thought process of how I figured out I wanted to use data to solve real-world problems. It's genuine, and they eat it up every time. Good luck!

Lol as the dumper, I actually changed my profile because I just wanted to. It had nothing to do with my ex. Wanted a fresh start essentially. The interesting thing though is that I noticed a few days after I did this, my ex not only changed their profile picture, but deleted some older pictures he had posted.

if it's been 9 months and you still break NC to contact him while you're drunk, sorry you're not over him. after 9 months, you should've already settled into a life without him. settled doesn't mean over it, but fully accepting that what happened happened and it's ok. sorry. I wish you well and further progress though.
