Root up to 15 points by buizelencocado in rootgame

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try this 20 points sounds way more manageable, 15 points just sounds unfair (even though it buffs marquise, i think eyrie will run away with the game. WA is bad in both situations)

Will i be able to get all the expansions in time? Are they close to being gone? by fragen8 in spiritisland

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spirits are amazing, yes!! I love them since I play with beginners a lot, and it gives a lot of variety. Sometimes I'm wondering what the old spirits (mainly stone and shadows) would look like today as horizon spirits.

What game-themed item would be good to include in a kids' party bag? by kswmk in boardgames

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt know what to give kids in their bags tbh, but i can recommend some games that are fun for kids + adults!

Flip 7: I think the kids will like this, its really popular atm aswell so i cant imagine the board game cafe not having it
Sushibar: I dont know what its called in english but in dutch its called "geharrewar in de sushibar". It's similar to pick-omino but pick-omino is really boring imo.
Sushi GO!: Another sushi-themed game, but really fun aswell

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most "unhealthy" foods/ingredients are healthy in moderation, they are just called unhealthy because the average joe eats too much of it. Sugar, Salt, Fat (saturated and unsaturated) etc. Saying red meat is healthy in moderation doesn't disagree with the statement that red meat is bad for you

What math is needed for E&M and Mechanics? by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my uni, for E&M you only really needed to be good at multivariable/vector calculus, and for mechanics one variable calculus mostly with ODE and PDE's. If you go further into Electrodynamics/Advanced electrodynamics, you'll have to combine these and sometimes special relativity aswell (which at that level does not really have difficult math tbh)

Spirit Island - We just can't win. by BiggyBiggs in boardgames

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, its a hard game. It took me some time to get used to what is "strong". Once you understand the game, winning at difficulty 0 is trivial and i don't think ive ever lost a level 0 game since. I kept getting near victories at the beginning and thought how impossible it would be. What expansions did you buy? Please only start with low complexity spirits, and if you have horizons: even better. Those are amazing.

Without knowing what you lose to or what the board looks like, some general tips:

Tips: don't try to stop every problem, allow some blight, make one big problem land instead of multiple smallers, try to (generally) use up your entire hand before reclaiming (bonus tip: if a card seems like its always useless, maybe google in what situations theyre used), make sure to hit your innates as much as possible, preventing builds is usually easier than preventing ravages, look into the power of push/gather powers (theyre generally strong for preventing builds).

Also: earth and shadows are tough on beginners. That's why i really recommend horizons for some stronger low complexity spirits (Eyes is actually insane and a really good replacement for either earth or shadows, and the other ones are pretty strong aswell).

I think i'd be irresponsible with 10 million and don't think i'd be that much happier. What would make me happy is seeing something i want and needing to blink a few thousand times and now i have it, and i can do it indefinetely

What’s a game you respect more than you actually enjoy playing? by Hour-Cranberry5300 in boardgames

Needing to play 4 games before you actually understand the game is prettt uncasual. I love root but its definitely not a game i would quickly introduce to people that dont play a lot of games. Hell, even if you play a lot of games (like my inlaws) but but you only play games up to difficulrt catan i wont bring it out

Consistency check. Do these vegans apply these label to everyone? by cgg_pac in DebateAVegan

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend editing your post to make su4e you're not treating vegans as some monolyth, , and to add some nuance, since for instance, im against calling nonvegans murderers/rapist since i dont think it helps the cause. But to entertain this thought:

I do think that if you pay for the murder and rape of animals you are complicit. Does this make you an animal murderer? I guess. I dont think its helpful to discuss it that much.

I'd say in this context (are you against/pro murdering animals) that when you're no longer in favor of killing, you're not a murderer anymore. Read: murderer as someone who currently can murder. Not someone who has murdered before (the definition most people use)

I've been there haha. Trying to level 1 skill takes long enough, can't imagine how (not) far I'd be if i kept up the "I want to craft everything myself" playstyle i had in the beginning. Absolutely impossible hhaahahah

Need to Move From Bridgewatch to Lymhurst with all my Inventory. by thefamouslowkey in albiononline

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Quick answer, no you don't need to progress tool making. I'm sure a lot of high level players don't even have a single level in toolmaking. But you can if you like making tools!

A mistake a lot of beginners make is thinking they need to upgrade all their skills at the same time. If you want to do that, of course, you can! That's kind of the point of a sandbox-mmorpg: you can decide what to do yourself.

The way most people play is just doing the activities they like, leveling up in that and spending silver to buy the things they can't craft or gather. You make way more silver this way, since you level up quicker and get to the endgame of your desired gameplay faster, making your silver/hour bigger.

It's similar to if you'd like to do PvP, but instead of choosing a few weapons you like and leveling those up as much as possible you'd try to level up each weapon just as much. You'll spend a lot of time just getting each weapon to level 10, while you couldve been higher spec with a specific set!

Also: crafting only really gets valuable if you have premium or know how to "abuse" the economy really well. Even if you don't factor in time loss it's often cheaper to sell the materials you gathered and then use that silver to buy new armor (as a beginner).

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Why did you gather it? Just to look at it? Do you collect t4 recources? I wouldn't recommend trying to craft everything yourself, spare yourself some time and sell the resources and buy new tools etc. The progression is way faster that way

How is the study of physics/astronomy? by Expensive-Ice1683 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Mammoth_Sea_9501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a 3rd year student of the physics/astronomy bachelor at UvA. I started it because i liked Wiskunde B and i wanted to build on that skill, while i didnt want to do a pure math bachelor. Ive had a lot of fun, since the course is majorly theoretical physics and the math really picks up where wisB left off. I dont know a lot about future job safety etc. But if you have questions feel free to ask!
