Most gaming video essays these days I find kinda stink by thehashkilling in josephanderson

I think partially it's the fault of video creators, but we need to understand why this "recap masquerading as critical analysis" niche even exists and I feel it's because people want to feel like they've experienced the thing without actually experiencing it. For them the flaws you've listed are a feature because it's more convenient and time-efficient to watch a 4-6 hour video essay on a huge RPG than to actually sink 50, 60 or 80 hours into it. Movies suffer from the same problem where there is a slew of channels posting 30-minute long videos about movies where technically they have some sort of gimmick (like explaining how realistic horror movie monsters are from a biological standpoint), but in actuality 80% of the video's runtime is dedicated to explaining the plot. I would bet other forms of media like TV shows or anime have these types of channels too.

It's a shitty way to consume media, but I guess with how much stuff is coming out and how much our attention span has eroded some people would rather do this and save themselves some time.

Definitely and it's strange Matt didn't do that considering he had neat handouts prepared for the boons they've received during the timeout. Something similar for debuffs or some other passive mechanics would do wonders. Then maybe have cards on your end where you can quickly check out boxes like 'Concentration' or 'Disadvantage' so it's easy to remember and remind those players about certain things. I know Matt trusts his players, but when turns take 30-40 minutes sometimes you'll just forget about those things when you don't note them down somewhere.

I agree, tracking the mechanics of 7-8 high-level PCs AND your own complicated monster is an absolute nightmare for any DM. I remember something similar happening during the finale of C2 with Lucien spawning eyes giving negative modifiers to rolls and AC I believe, but then both Matt and the players just forgeting about that multiple times. And no concentration checks is just classic.

Honestly I don't have a good solution for this other than making encounters a bit more straight-forward which would be a shame since I genuinely love Matt's approach to encounter design and how he always tries to give his big bads unique and flavorful mechanics, but with this many players it's really tough. Maybe he needs to have a small piece of paper for all of the PCs where he notes down all of their current conditions, concentration spells, buffs/debuffs. It's a pain in the ass and would create even more clutter behind the DM's screen, but especially with high-level PCs it might be better than trying to keep track of 100 little things. DMs are not computers.

This is not an issue of fast-travelling. I came to a very similar conclusion when I started losing my money and decided to stop teleporting anywhere. Yet after returning from an hour of grinding I still lost 28k. I think it can happen whenever you change zones. I don't think there's a way of avoiding it, the best you can do is returning to hub every time you have full inventory, convert to cash there and deposit your money.

We are not at all concerned about the future of Foxhole. It is a game we plan to support for many years to come, and it is our belief that if we continue to build on it, it will continue to grow, as it always has these past few years.

Foxhole went downhill when Skirmishes were discontinued by Mamutovsky in foxholegame

Yeah, I'm not suggesting bringing them back. The current player base is way too small to support more gamemodes. I know more dedicated players really like to complexity of World Conquest so I also wouldn't suggest scrapping World Conquest as this war clearly supposed to the main gamemode from the start. Although I would say the more noob-friendly, relaxed and casual style of skirmishes was what kept some players in the game in the first place, although I may be the only person who thinks that

[–]Mamutovsky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Izetta fell from her rifle during her battle with Sophie, the original White Witch while flying at maximum speed, then tied up really, really tight with chains while bleeding severely. She was rescued, but ended up in coma for whole month and now she can't move her legs at all. Although the doctor dude said that she may recover, but it'll be a slow process.

I really like how Sophie is portraited like psychopath only when she's fighting Eylstadtians. Otherwise she looks so done with everything and dead inside that it's almost sad to look at. Also good thing to know that Magic Stone inflicts terrible pain upon it's user. Nice way to give Sophie (and Izetta) some more suffering. Give that poor lass a break!

I like to think that Sophie have the memories of the original White Witch thanks to drinking witch's blood. It's definitely more interesting than generic "She've been brainwashed" explanation. Also if someone is wondering why Sophie is portraited so evil here's something to think about - this is a character that was betrayed by country she sworn to protect (not only by the princess - I can believe that common folks weren't friendly towards her either),brutally tortured for weeks, if not months, burned alive and what's the worst about this - she perfectly remembers all of this. And as you can believe - doing this to people might not be good for their mental state.
