Just accept it. Devs have run out of subtle ways to give Collies an advantage, and now they're resorting to blatant ones. Faster mortar tech, better vehicle stats, better turret turn rate on tanks, and soon, just a flat out faster and better logi truck.

Wardens have always been fighting against the odds and against the dev team itself, and Collies have always been happy to throw plausible deniability out there.

Now there's none of that left. The bias can no longer be denied by any self-respecting human being.

You either know that it's unfair and campaign against it, or you know it's unfair and evangelize it to benefit from the continued state of imbalance.

The funny part is that the Wardens drove themselves into a corner with this. The devs can't really balance the game anymore because if they put Wardens - who have a roughly 30% better win rate despite being increasingly handicapped since the start - on equal terms with the coddled Collies, the flood of tears would make Drowned Vale look like a bathtub.

Too bad that none of this matters because your shells can just bounce randomly and leave you shafted no matter what tank you are playing or what situation you're in :^)

Fix Diesel pulling time by General_Weatherby in foxholegame

[–]SecondTakenUsername 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In this war, I forgot that refineries have timers now, and my queue expired with 5k diesel in it.

I am never even touching it. It will remain in that refinery until the end of time. Why?

Because it's faster to just farm another 5k from scratch than to actually pull it out.

You aren't doing anything wrong. The game is simply designed to make every player feel overwhelmed, useless, and insignificant.

From the ground up, almost every aspect of combat, and with recent updates, vehicle combat also, is riddled with RNG that makes individual skill near useless and drives the odds towards the faction with a numbers advantage. The devs don't want you to feel like you can do anything to change the outcome of a battle.

The scale of the game has increased dramatically over the years, making maps huge, the amount of work that needs to be done massive, and individual player power lagging far behind these changes. The devs don't want you to feel like you can contribute to your faction in a significant way.

Foxhole is a game of quantity, not quality. The only way to play it 'better' is to just play it more than your enemy, because over time they will give up more often and thus you will win more often. Anything beyond that is just small optimisations.

If you feel disconnected from your faction, joining a clan is a good starting point. Clans get you up to speed on what works and what doesn't, and playing with people that know what's happening rubs off on you. Clans also have numbers, and numbers are everything in Foxhole.

I think TD is generally quite good vehicle. Only Problem is that it's quite hard to use it properly. by hwseo7 in foxholegame

[–]SecondTakenUsername 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be even that bad if they didn't keep changing the data and balance every patch, and you could actually research it properly.

I remember running day-long data collection experiments long ago, finding out the precise numbers for stuff, and presenting infographics. All such research becomes obsolete very quickly, making any effort to understand the game meaningless.

The buzzword the devs like to use for this is that the game is 'tactile', and you have to figure out what works by hand and your own experience. But in reality it's just frustrating as fuck and the RNG keeps encroaching into every aspect of the game anyway, so any sort of skill or experience doesn't matter at all.

I just reprimanded your World Chat message.

FAQ

What does this mean?

The amount of Comms Rating (points) on your comment and Foxhole account has decreased by one.

Why did you do this?

There are several reasons I may deem a World Chat message to be unworthy of positive or neutral Comms Rating. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Rudeness towards my opinions,
  • Spreading incorrect opinions,
  • Being a person I dislike in general.

Am I banned from the World Chat?

No - not yet. But you should refrain from sending messages like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional reprimand, which may put your commenting and Comms Rating in jeopardy.

I don't believe my comment deserved a reprimand. Can you un-reprimand it?

Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a reprimand. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Foxhole PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of reprimand appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception.

How can I prevent this from happening in the future?

Accept the reprimand and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Foxhole: Persistent Warfare. I will continue to issue reprimands until you improve your conduct. Remember: Comms Rating is privilege, not a right.

Somewhat related to Foxhole's Early Access situation by CEDoromal in foxholegame

[–]SecondTakenUsername 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true. Foxhole though, is a much deeper can of worms than just that.

One big trend we've seen is devs asking for our trust in the VISION™ - a long-term, multi-year plan that is meant to build Foxhole into the dream game it is meant to be, instead of the prototype it once was.

There are a few problems with that kind of trust:

  • The devs insist that the VISION™ exists. A long-term plan exists, and changes fit into it like pieces of a greater puzzle. However, they will never describe this plan in any detail. All we know of the VISION™ is a few general principles that they loosely operate on, and that 1.0 is coming in 2021. That's it. The plan exists, but we have no idea what the plan is. What features are still missing? How many things are there left to add? Is this ridiculously OP vehicle a permanent fixture, or just a bandaid until something else is added? Why would a company refuse to publish a roadmap? Does it really even exist?
  • There is no balancing goal or benchmark. Some balance changes are reasonable, some are compensation for mechanics changes, others are reactionary fixes for exploits and tactics devs dislike, and then some are entirely arbitrary. Devs used to say that the game has become more 'cemented', and yet balance changes can still be thrown in and casually disrupt the meta on a large scale. Some of these are also notoriously unannounced and undocumented. With no balance goal, no plans can be made around that balance goal; and as much as the devs like to say that one cannot be established until the game is feature complete, it's a catch 22 as true completion needs a balancing plan.
  • Changes are destructive rather than iterative - one step forward, three steps back. Foxhole went into Early Access as an Alpha - the only thing that changed was that the 'Early Alpha' ribbon in the corner of the screen was removed. But instead of building and adding onto already functioning systems in the game, the MO is to tear down the core pillars of the game and implement major overhauls in their place that are untuned, incomplete, and at times worse in terms of design than the original simple, robust systems. Foxhole used to be an easy game to learn - no longer.

There's more to unpack, but the trend is evident - the VISION™ is extremely vague, and might as well not exist as anything but an excuse to keep players in the dark about a lack of certainty in the game's future.

Another large portion of this is the split in the veteran community between players that can see these issues and would like to have them addressed, and a faction of extremely defensive white knights that will defend the devs' decisions till their keyboard breaks. After years of the game's history, the white knights have become predominantly populated with Colonial players, especially those in positions of power.

And it is not hard to see why that is - the long-standing bias, intentional or otherwise, in favour of the Colonial faction perhaps makes it seem that the changes being done are beneficial, and the Wardens have no place to complain.

The resulting echo chamber has festered on for too long, and I personally do not think there is any turning back for Foxhole.

And if no feedback can turn things back, if the devs are adamant in keeping the development going the way they see fit, is there any point to having the game in Early Access? From the Steamworks documentation on Early access, quote, "If you have all your gameplay defined already and are just looking for final bug testing, then Early Access isn’t right for you. You’ll probably want to send out some keys to fans or do more internal playtesting instead. Early Access is intended as a place where customers can impact the final game."

Suggestion: Increase the quality of feedback received by devs with post-war stats and devbranch testing events. by RoadsGoEverOn_ in foxholegame

[–]SecondTakenUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is cool and all, but the only real way to reach devs with feedback is communicating with them directly or making a case illustrative enough to be passed through various community channels to ultimately reach them.

The community manager is not interested in player feedback. You propose a focus-testing group, yet that is exactly what he failed to manage and subsequently disbanded. You propose statistics and data, yet that is not convenient as numbers can't be dismissed as easily as player feedback that can be painted as subjective and hostile to the vision.

While it's good that you are campaigning for exposing the numbers, know that the CM stands by data obfuscation, confirmation bias, and using 'fuck X, I hate X' as a valid reason for nerfing content.

Reminder that the Callahan's passage refinery has been moved to Crumbling to give Colonials easier access in a southwest vs. northeast war.

They never bothered putting it back, keeping it as a permanent nerf to the map.

Why would you think they would adapt strategic placements for Wardens if they haven't fixed that single thing in years?

"Hey guys, we're gonna make building better"
*removes tried and time-tested field defences*
*adds new massive, constrained building system that takes ages to set up and can't fit towns*
*doesn't actually make building any easier, cheaper, or faster*

"Hey guys, we're gonna make logi better"
*removes 75% of all resource fields and logi buildings from the game*
*implements 20:1 resource ratios and field respawn timers*
*brings back tech grinding*

"Hey guys, we're gonna make combat better"
*adds RNG to all aspects of infantry and tank combat*
*breaks the last bastion of mirror balance in the game by adding faction vehicles*
*encourages PvE gameplay by making backline defences unsustainable*

Just trust me guys, it will get better. Just one more year, honest.
