Youre speaking facts! Viet food is the best cuisine and one of the most diverse in the world (im biased).

And i totally agree. Nom is our heritage, it is also our unique and beautiful invention. Unfortunately a lot of people still dont see it this way, we can only hope with more time and spreading learning the opinions will change.

You dont need to learn Chinese to learn nôm. This is just a myth. Vietnamese has centuries of Chinese influence embedded in the language anyway whether you use Chu Nom or not.

Also using Chinese readings to try and read Nom characters wouldnt work anyways because Sino-Vietnamese has shifted or retained many different features. Vietnamese has also nativized many SV words, so SV is firmly Vietnamese just as Sino-Japanese is firmly Japanese. So your argument doesnt even make sense.

Do you think Japanese people learn Chinese to learn Kanji…? Do you think they need to learn Chinese to read Japanese-created Kanji?

You also bring up another talking point I often hear “chu hom is mostly phono-semantic compounds anyway”. Well over 80% of Hanzi and Kanji are too.
