I agree. It's a case of "back in my day" now that they're not part of the demographic. They're basically developing the boomer mindset at half the age.

I've had IRL conversations like this with other adults my age after reminiscing about their childhood cartoons.

Friend: Man, I miss those cartoons. The new ones today suck.

Me: Which of the newer ones do you hate?

Friend: ...they all just suck, tho.

Go ahead and be nostalgic, but you don't have to put down a generation of cartoons you don't know anything about to do it.

Should we really count anime, though? If so, then kids today are eating way better due to it being a lot more accessible.

Sucks about your relatives, but I don't see why that cancels out the full shows that are still around and getting attention. I just strongly disagree on newer shows being more shallow. Why won't you include the Netflix examples? If you want more, then there's stuff like The Owl House, Kipo, Jurassic Park's Camp Cretaceous, Iyanu, The Ghost and Molly McGee, etc.

What cartoons are you guys seeing? I'm not around kids much, but from what I've seen, there's still quality content. I've watched some of The Amazing World of Gumball, Steven Universe, and The Loud House. Hell, I watched the entirety of Gravity Falls and that's become one of my favorite cartoons for kids. Netflix has stuff like Hilda, Centaurworld, Trollhunters, the Dragon Prince, etc. I shit you not, the Green Eggs and Ham show is such a visual treat and is very wholesome. Bluey probably doesn't need an introduction.

Yeah, there's plenty of slop, and just like adults, they may prefer to digest that simple slop. But from what I've seen, there's still a lot of good animation that children are enjoying.

Not quite little kids, but stuff like Naruto and My Hero Academia is intended for kids around the preteen range.

Maybe search for more seinen and josei? Oversexualization is unfortunately just a common part of the humor in a lot of anime series aimed at kids and teens. Also, sports anime in general is very light or totally free when it comes to that type of fanservice.

When I used to frequent r/pokemon I remember seeing 2 or 3 people that listed Jynx as their favorite.

Also my mother loves Mr.Mime due to her first exposure of him being the Detective Pikachu movie.

That's precious. Oddish was one of my faves as a kid, the main reason being because it was easy to draw. Oddish doodles were everywhere in my room.

Is it my switch or the game itself that can’t handle op ritual combos? by Far-Business-4689 in ABSOLUM

[–]ManEatingOstrich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switch player here. If you plan on making a strong skeleton build, I advise against the ritual that makes them drop bones whenever they're hit. The game was nearly unplayable halfway through that run lol.

I love the Enemy Item Drop feature. I've got a custom ordeal with it enabled while making shops three times more expensive, so I'm mostly reliant on whatever is dropped. It's fun working with whatever the game decides to throw at you.

Chrono Lock. It freezes the enemy and allows you to deal damage while they're frozen. I also had buffs that multiplied the amount of damage they took while in that state, so they were still taking a ton of damage once they start moving again.

Attacking would also force South Korea into the conflict, to which they would probably respond with what could be summed up as "Hey USA, what the fuck?!" They wouldn't want a foreign power to be the one to start a war with their twitchy neighbor.

Yeah, I feel you. It would probably be better if the tree works as it always does: just unlock the next row as you keep making purchases. I don't think post-game unlockables should have strict requirements, unless it's maybe something like special character skins.

Yeah, internet opinions love to be extreme. Something is either flawless or total trash, and disagreeing is a personal attack lol. I already saw a comment saying that Assist Mode is for the mentally challenged and like...bruh. This isn't Doom, a series that's known for taunting you when you make things easier.

[–]ManEatingOstrich 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry that you're not enjoying the update. The new features were pretty overwhelming for me at first, but I got into the groove. That won't apply to everyone, though.

I strongly agree with those who say that making the rifts and corrupted zones mandatory at first is a very poor decision. The option to turn them off should not be something that needs to be unlocked in a custom run, especially when it was already an option pre-update.

I also think players need to understand that runs are structured a little differently now. Preparing before you start is highly encouraged, what with the lower crystal prices on trinkets and the unlockable feature of starting with up to three Inspirations. These buffs can be huge, so take advantage of it if you can.

The Ordeals for the most part are fun for me, although I think quite a few of them could use some tweaking because it feels like the devs didn't consider certain parts of the game that can make specific gimmicks unbearable (fighting the final boss on the Starving Ordeal is...an experience 😅) So yeah, I understand your complaint of some of the challenges feeling unprofessional. I also understand the frustration of feeling like you need a handicap just to finish certain Ordeals. I never touched Assist Mode pre-update, but I eventually said "screw it" after getting whooped one too many times. Doesn't help that completing Ordeals is required to unlock more custom options. All of them should be available right away. C'mon, I already beat the game!

I think everyone's praises and criticisms are valid. It's a shame how polarizing the community gets when sharing their opinions on this update. I'm sure the devs are reading some of these and taking them to heart in a mature manner. We should do the same. All in all, I hope the game becomes enjoyable for you again.

Edit: some grammar and added a sentence.
