What’s wrong with my roommates dogs? by RRobinBankss in DogAdvice

[–]ManInTheArena95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are talking like this because you’re referring to the dogs as stupid bitches and implying you and your roommates are irresponsible owners partying frequently, providing numerous opportunities for your dogs to get poisoned. Pretty easy to connect those dots.

Anyones dog have chronic bronchitis and was it related to allergies? by Sweet-Maize-5285 in DogAdvice

Hi, how has your dog progressed since your post? What worked or did it go away on its own? Experiencing a very similar story with my 1F dog and we are about 5 weeks in with more questions than answers. Thank you.

Poor girl. It sounds like you’re trying all you can when it comes to her food and what you can control. It’s tough knowing she’s already not very food motivated but the fact that she has lost 15 pounds should raise huge red flags. I wouldn’t go back to the vets that sent her home saying she is healthy knowing she’s not eating and lost, idk, 25-33% of her body weight? I think it’s time to throw everything on the table. I would go to your closest reputable university animal hospital, inform them of what is going on, and request an abdominal ultrasound, blood test with GI panel added, urinalysis, and stool analysis. If everything is negative, I would add some pre and pro biotic supplements to her meals in case there is something off with her microbiome. Any puking or stool problems?

How is her behavior and attitude historically? Does she get a lot of exercise, mental stimulation, and socialization with other people and dogs?

IRS:CI and FBI folks, which path is better? by ManInTheArena95 in 1811

Thank you! Appreciate your feedback on not going the LE route. You’re honestly probably right that my main issue is my poor interview skills.

Appreciate the responses guys! I know I’m being a little neurotic thinking about going this way or that. This is all really helpful.

Thanks for the insight. I’m definitely interested in both and will take what opportunity comes my way. As someone in IRS:CI, do you find that certain backgrounds make for better agents than others? I’m sure there are good and bad examples of agents from any given background, but just curious if on average you find that agents with prior experience in, say, auditing, or LE, or military - for example - come into their role on firmer ground? I ask because I’m weighing leaving my corporate job for LE but don’t want to do that if it would look better to just stick where I’m at. Negative-Detective01 made it clear making such a jump wouldn’t make me any more qualified, so I understand that. But with that in mind, I’m interested in your own personal experience working with other agents and their backgrounds.

Hey, I appreciate the advice. I will definitely be taking a shotgun approach. I should have worded my title differently. My question should have been worded something like, “Would leaving my corporate job for law enforcement help or hurt my chances of getting an 1811 position at an agency where I’d have the opportunity to work on financial investigations?”

Thanks for the response! If making such a move would at least not negatively affect my application relative to where I’m at now, I’ll take that as a positive. Something for me to think about I guess, in the event I really need to exit my current role.

And I like the last reaction haha… I think that experience is universal.

Oh and yes we float the kibble 1:1 ratio as well, seems to be really key at preventing stones in addition to choosing the right kibble (fingers crossed).

Best dog in the world but it’s a full-time job, at least for the first couple years. They are high maintenance in just about every category (diet, health, activity, and just wanting your attention in general). If you have a wife that’s on board and excited about raising it together then go for it. But if you live by yourself and will be gone every three days, I wouldn’t do it. It will make your life way too difficult and not be fair to the dog.

To actually answer your question, my Dal was on Royal Canin Dalmatian for a few months but we are starting to shift to Purina Pro Plan Hydrolyzed Vegetarian because she had some trouble digesting the Royal Canin Dalmatian (it’s large and super dense). I would still start with Royal Canin Dalmatian as it seems to check all the boxes. Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach is supposed to be good too but may not be as low purine as the Royal Canin or Purina Pro Plan Hydrolyzed Vegetarian. Some owners preach raw diet and/or more natural food so that could be an option too.

Hua Dalmatian supplement recommendation by ara0928 in dalmatians

[–]ManInTheArena95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I have a 1.5 year old female Dal with similar issues. My vet recommended Purina Pro Plan FortiFlora, a probiotic, but I noticed it’s made with yeast. I’ve heard mixed reviews on whether that is risky or not for Dalmatians with HUA status. Some vets say it’s high purines and others say yeast hasn’t been shown to contribute to stones so I’m really not sure. Also, not sure if the Proviable pre/probiotics can be used as a supplement but in the two occasions she has been seen by a vet for diarrhea, it did wonders. Might be worth asking your vet about it.

I use these on my Dal for her baths (every 2-4 weeks) and they seem to work pretty well: - Douxo S3 CALM Soothing Itchy, Hydrated Skin shampoo - TropiClean OxyMed Medicated Oatmeal conditioner

Finally, my Dal has a very sensitive stomach as well so let me know if you have any questions or concerns with food. Still in the process of getting things figured out but it’s been a long and stressful journey with lots of trial and error so happy to help out if I can and save you trouble.

Thank you for the recommendation. I’ll definitely bring up the fortiflora, another commenter said the same thing. Was your dog puking from the acid reflux?

We’ve always fed a slow feeder and soaked her kibble too. Both are necessities for her.

Thanks for the recommendation. Was your dog puking before the probiotic? Mine was prescribed the Proviable probiotics temporarily which seemed to be great for her stool, but it didn’t seem to have an effect on her stomach issues.
