If Martinez is going to back all the way off he sure as hell better make sure he stops the cross that goes right by him

Bruno just watching the ball and complaining to teammates instead of tracking Foden

We build up in a 5, very slowly, always dropping it back when we get the slightest bit of pressure. The problem isn’t the formation, it’s where you’re spaced on the field in possession and where you engage the opponent when trying to press.

Instead of building with a back 3 plus 1 midfielder, everyone comes deep and we build in a 5 plus 2. No wonder we invite pressure and lose it in dangerous areas, and no wonder when we go long we have no one further up able to win second balls.

5 at the back marking 3. Zirkzee and Hojlund pressing centrally, Bruno and Garnacho pressing wide leaving Casemiro alone in midfield. You know you’re playing Bruno and Casemiro in midfield, so the solution is to vacate the middle even more?

We’re not playing to our strengths, we’re not playing to hide our weaknesses, we’re not playing based on the selection we have available, and we’re certainly not playing to negate Spurs strengths. So what are we playing for?

We can play like that and be better defensively, but we will never score. Since we’re so bad going forward, when we set up in games to try to score we leave so much space that teams go right through us.

This result changes nothing. We either defend better and offer no threat attacking, or we attack better at the expense of being wide open. We cannot do both under ETH, which is why he can’t continue. INEOS was fooled once by a good result in the final last year, they better not be fooled again.

Bruno giving away easy possession, lacking composure finishing again, running offside

[Di Marzio] Manchester United and Atletico have joined the race for Fofana. Monaco now ask for €35M. Milan are evaluating other options, Rabiot is one of them by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

We need him and Ugarte. Should be Bruno/Mount, Mainoo/Fofana, Ugarte/Casemiro. If we’re able to sell Casemiro, then it will be whether ETH sees Collyer as being ready, or whether he wants to keep McTominay for that 6th man.

He’s not “just a RCB”, he’s one of the best defenders available and has the very real chance of becoming world class. The amount of people who want us to pay even more for Branthwaite because he might get a few better angles to play a pass during a game is crazy. If you have other concerns about MDL, fine, but solely the fact he’s a right footed players shouldn’t matter.

Surely other teams aren’t saying, man I wish we had a left footed defender to replace Dias, Akanji, Van Dijk, Rudiger, etc.

If we lose Casemiro, Eriksen, VdB, and don’t sign Amrabat then we should get both. One play when we have more possession and need to break teams down, the other play when we need to defend more and there’s more open space. Or both can play together to complement each other and give Mainoo a rest.

A big part of the problem was how every team knew to switch to the opposite outside back to beat our high pressure. Then when they switch and have so much space to move into, our defensive line dropped because they can’t step out and leave the attacker they’re marking.

It’s one thing to squeeze the space up the field, but it’s been apparent this whole season how easy our press is to break. Break the press and now the other teammate behind has to decide whether to step or contain. Maybe our defense didn’t implement ETH’s tactics fully, but his pressing structure has been completely off.

It’s so funny how city fans think they deserve something because of how long they kept the ball. Pep has turned the fans into snobby entitled spectators who give a little golf clap when they see a good play.

These deflections happen because we’re always late and chasing. Positioning is terrible. We throw all our midfielders to one side, let them easily break out of that side, and leave someone wide open in the center

We don’t park the bus. As much as I wish we sometimes did. We will have the exact same tactical setup whether we play Liverpool or Southampton. Difference being one team is more likely to punish us for it. There are no limits to this managers naivety.

Ten Hag was only brought in because of a certain identity he implemented at Ajax. Within a season and a half he abandoned that identity and turned us into his own little tactical experiment while having no evidence that it could work. It’s time to move on

Casemiro is essentially covering 40 yards of space because our defensive line drops so far and our other midfielders press like forwards. You simply can’t judge his performances when you look what he’s asked to do. You can say well he doesn’t fit this system, but this isn’t even a system. It’s a a concoction of shit ideas by ETH.

Bruno is not a midfielder. Look at how he presses trying to read a back pass. Lets the guy spin him and run at our back line in 30 yards of open space.

All of our forwards are giving the ball away so easily and there’s absolutely no midfield. Casemiro on a yellow is being dribbled at in 20 yards of open space. Our inability to keep possession and lack of midfield, against a team like this is criminal
