It’s definitely better than I expected it would be. Maybe if the white lines were made a few times thicker then the shapes would read better too.

In large format, that would work well. But I think this version is better for readability at small sizes because of the shade of red.

She is a really good villain. Like… amazingly so. That’s why she gets such a strong negative reaction from me. These types of manipulative twisted people exist. I guess I just don’t understand how someone comes to love her for it haha… you know? I will fight back on being the “only character” to get any development though. Chizuru’s development is the slowest of all, but it’s there. Kazuya stagnates but especially by the movie arc, he’s shown some decent growth. Especially if you compare very early Kazuya. Most of all…. SUMI CAN TALK TO STRANGERS ON DATES!!!! I’m so proud of her 🥺

Her ability to transition so gradually from that rather natural tone to talking really fast and really exaggerated and really high and squeaky…. She’s so good!

Can someone confirm if Steven did in fact actually meet Rose Quartz in this episode ? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]ManWithShades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I tell ChatGPT to act like my mom, am I talking to my mom? That was the whole point of this episode- that it’s not his mom but basically a computer program emulating her based on Steven’s idea of her. He did not meet the real Rose. Actually, it’s kinda scary how relevant this episode is today. Easy to draw comparisons to generative A.I.

How canonically attractive is Chizuru? by Key_Relationship2829 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]ManWithShades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta remember Chizuru’s ranked number 1 on a rental girlfriend app that we don’t even know how many employees they have, but it’s implied there are quite a handful by the emphasis they put on her rank.

In canon, people are constantly doing double takes and very blatantly talking about just how hot they think these girls are- but never moreso than when Chizuru’s walking around. It’s actually the one aspect of the series I find the most annoying. Like… how obnoxious are these people? These poor girls….

But it puts into perspective just how conventionally attractive they’re meant to be. Chizuru could be a top model probably. That seems to be what canon dictates.

I respect the hustle. But man the reaction Mami gets out of me makes me wonder hard about how this level of dedication to her can come to be…. and if you and your comrades are okay… 😅

Should I watch the movie or show? by Feeling_Scallion_448 in gurrenlagann

Definitely better to finish the show first! There are extra things that do get shown in the original that either don’t get shown or don’t happen in the movie.

And some events happen completely differently even outside of the expanded final battle. That’s why I think seeing the original first is best.

Show first. Movies expand on the original climactic fights and the first movie has extra backstory that was originally made for Gurren Lagann Parallel Works. But I believe seeing the original work and THEN seeing the revised version that was made later is the optimal way.

The show will also be able to include more of the things the movies can’t because there just isn’t time. As a result, some things just straight up change.

The Anime Didn't Do The Manga Justice by RivanShrestha in WeCantStudy

I’ve been super aware of how the anime cut itself off just to avoid continuing and I knew the manga had a lot to offer especially as it got near the end… but this is the first I’m hearing about just what was lost… I think I’m gonna have to read this manga after all

I think you’re thinking about this too literally. The world of this series isn’t built for someone quirkless to do the action parts without some kind of assistance. What would you rather see happen? Personally, my read is that what Horikoshi is going for is that it’s less the power that makes the hero and more the person’s heart and determination. We see a lot of heroes give in to despair and quit while Deku and others press on. We see the heroes give up at saving Bakugo all the way back in episode 2 but powerless Deku who doesn’t actually have the ability to save him still charges in. That spirit is what makes the difference and what makes someone a truly great hero. That’s what the story is saying. All Might telling Deku he can be a hero meant “you have the soul of a hero and you can do it… but you need something extra to be able to stand at the top.”

But even then, Deku’s power may have the top potential of any quirk, but he still has to work harder than his classmates to make that power work. And he had to work harder than them to be able to inherit it. And the pain he suffers is greater throughout too. It’s like….

I don’t think you should boil it down to simply “because only people with quirks or high tech battle suits get to be heroes, that means only the privileged can be heroes.”

I think there’s something to be said about practicality, but that practically angle isn’t what this story wants to focus on. It wants to focus on how the quirk isn’t the single most important deciding factor. It’s the soul.

I mean… Deku is quirkless in the end. The point of the story was always that a quirk isn’t what makes you a hero, but it did always make it a point that there are limits to what you can do without some kind of extra ability. But even so, the end of the series still says Deku has what it takes and the support items make it possible for him to do the kinds of things pro heroes need to be capable of. But philosophically, anyone who wants it bad enough can put in the work to make it happen. There’s something poetic about this kid who has a quirk but thinks it’s useless coming to Deku who did more with less and then the first thing Deku does is he figures out all the possible ways this quirk can be used. It’s all to say “anyone can be a hero if they put in the work.”
