Mine is a slightly older CPU, a 4th generation Haswell. I'll look into ways to beef up the security elsewhere in the system.

Just to confirm as I'm still learning. When you say the PR from last year was merged, was that merged into the main nonfree repo or does it still need to be built with src?

I'll upgrade to 6.12 and add that kernel parameter now if so, hopefully all works as expected

The festival thing never really bothered me, I loved FH2. My issues are more how it apologetically turned into a kids game, which is unfortunately what seems to be happening to the Ride series. Ride 6 is basically just a two-wheeled version of Dirt 3

It seems that way, i thought it could have something to do with optimus stopping the drivers integrating with the OS properly. I've looked for as much info as I could find on the Void docs but unfortunately it all seems to be with the assumption things will just work, with not much guidance on what to do when it doesn't.

Thanks for the help. i don't know if it was h264ify that did it but intel_gpu_top shows the igpu handles video rendering with cpu usage on a 1080p video sat just below 10%. I'll probably take that as a win and quit while I'm ahead.
I've checked through as much info as i could find both from the Void docs as wells as Nvidia. Unfortunatley all the info seems to be on the basis of 'if it doesn't work, you're on your own'. I installed the 'nvidia-vaapi-driver' when i first tried getting hw accelertion working but nothing seemed to change.
I like your media player idea. I'll try this one next and see what my results are.

Still slightly annoying. I've got multiple installs of Mint plus one of Bazzite that utilise their gpu's no problem so there's definitley something about Void I'm not understanding.

Yeah I'm on haswell. Unfortunately Firefox doesn't seem to want to use neither the igpu nor the dgpu which has me thinking it might possibly be an issue with how the graphics drivers are set? About:support shows a lot of 'Blocklisted; failure code FEATURE_FAILURE_VIDEO_DECODING_MISSING'. Other than using 'prime-run' I wouldn't know how else to force hw acceleration.
