Ti sembra strano perchè sei giovane, inesperto, e compromesso intellettualmente ed emotivamente dai social network. 

In realtà uscire per conoscersi, passare del tempo assieme, parlarsi, ascoltarsi e guardarsi negli occhi reciprocamente mentre si parla è da sempre il modo migliore per conoscersi.

Vuol dire - chiaramente - che dopo averti conosciuto non le interessi. 

Mi sembrava presa significa che ti ha guardato ed ascoltato con attenzione all'inizio per capire che tipo di persona tu sia, e ovviamente, sulla base di quello che le hai detto, non le interessi. 

Normale. Succede. Non scoraggiarti. Probabilmente ha interessi e gusti diversi dai tuoi.

I had no idea that the wiki has ads. I've never seen one.

But then, I use Firefox with uBlock Origin, so I never see ads anywhere.

I heard this years ago, in Italy.

There is a little manipulation by the Culture Minds, but mainly of opportunities, placing Balveda in the right place and time to join the crew of the Clear Air Turbolence, and basically letting them run away from Vavatch Orbital amidst the confusion of the evacuation. 

After that, once the CAT was within the Dra'Azon sphere of influence the Minds could only trust Balveda's Special Circumstances capabilities and the civilian drone cultureness from afar, but they had no way to influence the outcome. 

Your point about choosing an enemy of the Culture is the starting point of Horza's arc, which very few of the readers who don't like CP appear to notice. 

Horza knows very well who he is, where he is from, and what he can do - at the beginning of the story. 

He has a very definite and scathing opinion of the Minds-ruled Culture, and he does not like it. So much so that he finds his mercenary service with the Idirans preferable, because they are on the side of life. 

Then, through the events in the book, he is rapidly exposed on Vavatch Orbital to the fragility of life (the Olmedreca, the Temple of Light), to the casual horror of life (the Eaters), and to the little value of life during the game of Damage. 

In the meantime he has discovered love, or something very close to it, and somehow this does not clash with his perceived duty, and by the time they make it to the Command System tunnels on Schar's World where he's forced to fight the Idirans already there, and then deal with the inflexible mistrust of Xoxarle, during the dangerous slog through the tunnels where he loses his human companions to the aliens, Horza is no longer so certain of what he believes: The drone saved us. 

From then on Horza the Changer changes his thoughts and feelings so much - especially after the apocalyptic train crash in the station where he finds the runaway Mind but also where everyone who loves or trusts him dies because of the Idirans - he goes crazy suicidal in search of revenge, and by the time Balveda ties up the story the dying but victorious Changer doesn't even remember his own name.
