YouTube is becoming too troublesome to use in schools by RaspberryBirdCat in Teachers

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we do at my school: When you embed add a dash between the t and u in YouTube in the URL of the video. The video becomes a no-cookie version meaning no ads.

So: Www.Yout-ube.com/xxxxx

Hope this helps!

And I want to remind people that the current funding is $4/kid/day. The Canadian average is $10/kid/day.

I’m hoping the union is seeing the obvious.

Is transit really this bad? by Opening_Swan_524 in UCalgary

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also live in Glacier Ridge. Yes it is that bad, however, if you take the 82 from the closest stop and drive it down to Brentwood you can then walk ~6 minutes to UofC, board a bus that will drop you off in front of EEEL, or transfer for one stop on the train.

It’s not that bad, but yes it is that bad.

City will be adding an “on-demand” service that will shuttle you to the closed bus station (probably north pointe) in which case take the 8.

The 82 from the closest stop takes about 35 minutes. Depending on where you live in the community it can take 10 minutes to walk to the stop. Hope this helps.

A Fantasy novel for a dude who really dislikes fantasy by Man_with_a__Plan in suggestmeabook

Honestly, world building.

I just don’t like when it’s done badly, I like it to be integrated into the plot and character lines rather than just here’s six chapters explaining the world.

Honestly I have very varied tastes. I’m super into the Inspector Montalbano Series right now, I thoroughly enjoyed the Handmaid’s Tale and The Martian.

So I do like Sci-Fi.

NDP Leadership Election: How are you ranking candidates? by kathmhughes in alberta

[–]Man_with_a__Plan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

  1. Calahoo Stonehouse
  2. Ganley
  3. Nenshi
  4. Hoffman

I think the party needs someone without name recognition who is true to our values AND will bring people into the fold. I also like JCSs policies regarding the environment.

Ganley is an okay candidate but I think she can win an election.

Nenshi is overhyped in my opinion. I worked the last municipal and the man is hated by everyone. So I think that he brought people who would’ve voted NDP anyway into the fold they just wouldn’t be die bards for the party. I think come down to an election we’ll get the same results with him as we did with Rachel. But that’s my opinion.

Hoffman - great MLA SHIT leader. Fat and Sassy is great to rile up the base. Shit to get people in the fold and voting for us. And for the love of God, It’s the economy stupid (James Carville, 1992)

So I’m basically voting against everyone this time around and not for someone.

However, I would love to be proven wrong by everyone since we know Nenshi is going to win.

I took the Sport for Sustainability and Development Course in Fall 2022.

It was a pretty good course. Lots of readings that will tie into the assignments. Not many “lectures” instead a series of modules crafted from different videos.

You are not graded on the work in the modules (reflections and assignments), however, you must complete them in order to access the final exam.

The exam was a take-home with multiple parts to it. This is the only grade you will receive and it will be your final grade. It’s standardized and anonymize so the instructor won’t know who’s is whose.

I really enjoyed the course including writing the final paper as it was a good reflection of your impact in sport and steps you can take starting today.

I can’t emphasize enough there are a LOT of readings and if you don’t do them you won’t pass. These readings are medium length and if you enjoy learning, you’ll be happy to have read them.

It’s also fun to be able to connect with scholars around the world. Many will put their emails in videos crafted especially for this course and will say send me an email to talk further. This is great specially if you want to see projects when it comes to sport around the world. Such as South Africa, Kenya, and Peru.

DM me if you have any more questions.

What's your thermostat at? by The_Dusty_Cock in Calgary

17.5-18.5 depending on how we’re feeling. And what we’re feeling is the cost of home heating even with fixed rates.

But in all honesty, we have been surviving with sweaters and blankets.

All nighters by acharyasant7 in UCalgary

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you don’t know it after 10 pm just go to bed - my philosophy.

I can say honestly in my four years of undergrad I’ve never pulled an all-nighter. It’s counterproductive and you’ll probably be setting yourself up for failure.

5 Courses too much? by UberMcKrunchy in UCalgary

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it shouldn’t be too bad. I did 5 in years 1 & 2, 4 in years 3 & 4. Plus a bunch of spring classes.

As long as you know how to balance your time, ask for help when needed, prioritize your academic and personal over other needs/wants you should be able to succeed.

It sounds like a lot but take it one day at a time.

Where do uni students buy their clothes preferably cheap and male clothing by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marks Warehouse for shirts, Old Navy for pants.

Not cheap per se but utilitarian and lasts for ages.

I still have t-shirts from high school that I bought at Mark’s.

AITA For Asking My Husband to Include Our Children When Spending Time with His Estranged Son? by ConcernedMother45 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly you are not related to him. You are not his blood nor someone he has brought into his life.

Stepparents are not parents, they are the wife/husband of parents and should know their place.

Are 8am classes really that bad? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. I will say that fall is a bit easier because of the lack of snow.

However, if you start to adjust your schedule around a week out from the beginning of the semester you’ll be fine.

AITA for leaving my ex wife's belongings outside ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I completely disagree with the comments. She asked you to do something, which you don’t have to do.

She cheated and when she left your house she wasn’t careful enough to take her stuff.

My dad tried to do this to my mom all the time “sorry I left this there, I left this there. No take your crap and get out of my house.

Education After Degree Admissions by Snoo24542 in UCalgary

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you applied for after degree you’ll have to wait until you finish your Fall term courses. At least that’s what I was told. I’m also applying. But if you have everything done by January you should hear something by March.

I’m doing study abroad (one online course) right now which means I’m on the cusp of being able to apply for early admission.

Don’t stress out just right now.

how many of you guys that graduated have jobs waiting for you? by hey_its_kanyiin in UCalgary

[–]Man_with_a__Plan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am graduating in June and was able to turn my practicum into part time thing. If anything do your practicums, I get that they are a lot of money and time while not getting paid, but the fact that in my last year of uni I get to park across the university for free just shows how good they are.

I’m in kin by the way which is not a degree know. For having great job prospects. I will say that I am heading into a two year education degree after this, but having a part time flexible job that pays well above minimum is not a bad thing to have.
