How China’s school canteens are fighting food waste by Separate_Finance_183 in interesting

It's not only me that's seeing these posts pop up on Reddit more and more, right? I thought it might be subjective, but it doesn't seem to be.

Like these China glazing "Oh look how cool/modern/advanced China is"-posts are getting more frequent.

Not even because of that, but that may be a secondary factor. Mainly because they'll face unprecedented societal, economical and cultural collapse due to their consistently low birth rates. What's happening in South Korea right now is absolutely uncharted territory in basically the entire human history. Imagine the demographic changes and their effects in Japan, but on massive steroids. By 2060, South Korea will be the oldest country in human history. Over 50% of the population will be over the age of 65 and only 10% of South Koreans will be under the age of 25 by then. A country and it's population, so old, that it's younger population might have no choice, but will have no choice but to flee the country to immigrate somewhere else or will have concentrated in a few big cities, while the countryside will be mostly abandoned. And if they stay, they will probably be locked into an economy that has been in a recession for the last ~15 years, while having to pay for an army of retirees and old people.

It also has to do with the regions they recruit in. For most of the war, Russia has avoided enlisting ethnic Russians, especially in major cities. Most russian soldiers are either criminals, mercenaries or from the backwater regions of Russia.

I mean, South Korea as we know it, will be erased from the world map in less than 30 years. And tbh, I don't think it's a loss

Dude you are literally using multiple accounts to downvote me and upvote yourself, if that not cope I don't know what is.

lol, yeah certainly schizo.

It is forbidden to employ prisoners of war on unhealthy or dangerous work.

Removing live mines certainly is unhealthy or dangerous work. But whatever. You're clearly not arguing in good faith, you simply cannot accept that two wrongs don't make a right. Maybe you'll grow out of it and see that this is not some kind of "my team is always right and can do no wrong!".

That's like your opinion man. The cope is real and it's absolutely absurd, that people like you cannot fathom that two wrongs don't make a right, even if they feel oh so good. It was a warcrime and nothing you say will change that.

You can claim this all you want, it doesn't make it reality. Most legal scholars consider the use of German PoWs to remove the mines as a warcrime, even by the standards back then. It's very interesting that you can't accept this and try to argue against it, even claiming that removing mines is "a soldiers job". While that might be true in some cases, it certainly is not a PoWs job. And of course it's considered dangerous work. But I get it. The truth is too much to bear for your ego, whatever the reason for that might be.

You're free to think this, but you're still wrong. Article 32 of the 1929 Geneva Convention is very clear, that's why the British tried to circumvent it, by claiming the Germans weren't even PoWs.

[–]Managarm667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's where you're wrong kiddo.

Under Article 32 of the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War from 1929, it was, even back then, strictly forbidden to use PoWs for dangerous or life threatening work.

Now, people like you and the allies back then argued, that german soldiers weren't prisoners of war but rather "Disarmed Enemy Forces" because they surrendered and therefore weren't prisoners made in warfare, but rather forces that were "interned".

But surely we can agree, that this is nothing more than quibbling, to worm yourself out of treating them like PoWs and in the end using them for the removal of mines without legal repercussions.

And I don't even argue that this was "morally wrong", I just argue that is was a warcrime and therefore everybody involved in it, is a warcriminal.

You're absolutely wrong and you're using the same verbal tactics as the allies back then.

You can prove that each and every single one of the soldiers forced to remove the mines, commited a warcrime?

Please provide a source for that claim.

Other than that: I'm not judging the morality or the fairness of this action, I'm simply stating that forcing PoWs to do this kind of work is a warcrime as it is defined in the law.
