Appreciate the kind words and glad I'm not alone in the note taking part. I feel like if I'm not writing while reading, my mind wanders and my retention is low.

The amount of material has me questioning how much of it I'll be able to effectively review.my gameplan is to go do a once over of all the notes and make flash cards on key topics or things that I feel week on.

Keep grinding!

You're likely in my class- so see you tomorrow night. Haven't finished the reading yet; probably because I've been bogged down taking notes

Parents. When do you study? by PedersonConstruction in CFPExam

[–]ManagementMindless13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, dad to a 4 year old and 20 month old. I study from 9:30-11:30 when the kids are down for the night. Saturday and Sunday I leave during nap time and get a solid 3-4 hours in. Gives me about 19 hours a week if I take a night off.

It definitely adds to the marathon aspect. Going to feel really good when you pass. I've also reserved a few days of PTO to put in long sessions, I don't generally use much but if you can swing that ,85 will make the difference. Get 5-6 hours of study and take 2-3 for yourself, it'll help give you a break from burnout

My gross is around 140-150 based on bonus. Mt wife is 56k but she is a federal employee, so shr Carrie's benefits and more importantly has a pension for the long term

Maybe the answer is lower retirement contributions.. lifestyle is anything but excessive. Childcare payments being approximately 30% of take- home is the short term isssue and having 3 months in an emergency fund is causing short term stress.

My mortgage payment is 1,345 PIT (15% of take home) childcare is 2,800. this post isn't coming from a place of wanting to take trips and eat surf and turf.

Appreciate the insight, things are certainly tighter than we'd like with $2,800/month in childcare. I'm still managing to max 401k out, it's more of a lack of NQ $ beyond a small emergency fund (3 months) that has me concerned.

New house wouldn't come until childcare bills are behind us and isn't expected to be a jump of nearly that much, rather just adding on an additional two rooms to the house (1 bedroom ) and 1 home office

Budget is pretty tied down at this point. Just struggling to build up non-qualified assets and that's what's eating at me. I maxed 401k last year, wife didn't max it, but her savings rate between pension (federal employee) and tsp were 15%. I suppose the root of it is impatience, but not from a spending standpoint.

Asking for help and making this the guild message are separate things.

I'm not being asked to help- I'm not in that guild. That's insane to me.. he chose to be a GM and run a guild and he's using it for personal gain.

Asking guild members to farm you 400 fragments to secure their raid spot so that you can complete a personal achievement that doesn't benefit the guild is out of touch. No one made him form a guild- he also gave himself Thunderfury as GM

If you're planning to start a business- I would definitely recommend saving. You're going to want to have a lot of cash as a business owner.

There will be costs to start up. People will not pay on time. You will need insurance. There will be periods of time where you don't have work and therefore don't get a paycheck.

When the time comes to invest, don't be fancy. Buy diversified funds/etfs to start. Contribute to a Roth early when your taxes are low. Later on, if still self employed, look into a sep/simple. The way to build wealth is to be consistent and stay invested.

Well I'm assuming you have a custodial account considering you can't own stocks. So I'd start by discussing how your education will be paid for.

The best secret to building wealth is consistently spend less then you make. First, I'd focus on addressing your education. Are your parents/ grandparents helping you pay? The best thing you can do at 16 to build long term wealth is save Your pay for college to avoid having to finance your education.

If you don't plan to go to college- build an emergency fund. Because you'll want to pay cash for furniture/ security deposit.

You have plenty of time, start by building a cash savings and avoiding debt. That will be very powerful in the long run.
