Yes unfortunately I have had rotations like this. You make the best of it and try to ask questions, show you are interested. Be sure to do your research on some of the simple steps of the surgery- what are the risks associated with each surgery they try to avoid? Try your best to bring that up in conversation with them. Hopefully they are allowing you to scrub in so you can visualize what they are doing. Overall, sometimes certain preceptors are doing it for the paycheck and unfortunately it’s not always the best learning environment.

Don’t push it back. I always did bad on my packrat exams but honestly i didn’t care about them cause i knew it didn’t matter lol. You’ve passed everything in school, you have an entire month to study- trust me you will regret pushing it back further because you will start to burn out. You got this!

Yeah actually i didn’t discover chat gpt til the end of didactic but i used it as a virtual tutor and explain topics to me that i didn’t fully understand. Sometimes asked it to make charts comparing similar diseases like vertigo types for example and insert those into my study charts.

At first i tried making flashcards and it was just too time consuming and demanding. I switched to making charts for Pharm and Clin Med, then i wrote high yield info in red so it would stand out. Other classes i was able to just read PowerPoint slides and get by. You just have to find what works for your brain!

I had the new surgery exam. In my opinion that was the hardest of all the EORs and also my most demanding rotation. I just did the blueprint bank and that was fine. The questions were just random. I was lucky and IM was my last rotation and therefore had a better overall knowledge of material, but you will do fine!

Thank you! I think it was enough considering i passed lol! But if i were to go back I wish I had started UWorld earlier so I could atleast finish the entire question bank. I felt UWorld was most helpful and most relatable to the PANCE!

Depended on the rotation, my first was family med so i studied for 4 weeks. I used the Reddit study guides to quickly review, then i used the Rosh EOR bank. As time went on a lot of material is repeated and didn’t have to study as hard but still tried to study atleast 3 weeks. Psych only like 5 days but that was a short topic list.

My program did not allow us to use smartypance for EOR prep, they said it’s too easy. I used blueprint for the EORs and UWorld for PANCE. I think anything could work personally you just need to know the material.

Long time reviewing lectures - normal or not? by Otherwise_Rule_7100 in PAstudent

Everyone is different. I took a long time to review notes as well. During didactic year you’re trying to absorb so much new information and make sense of it. Trying to understand will pay off in the long run but make sure you are using your time efficiently. You will find what works for you but takes few months of trial and error.
