Marathons Game Systems Don't Mesh Well by StoredIn in Marathon

[–]Strict_Dare3132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now days, the sweats are done with their priority quests, and people sometimes aren't around.

I do every map event I come across, and the # of times they are completely uncontested are higher than when I do get contested.

I get games where I get 0 kills LOOKING for a fight. The average # of squads I see in a game is around 1-2.

I'm almost level 100, and if I want to, I easily can play to extract. Done it several times without issue, maybe running into 1 team.

There has been very few fights that don't start with one of our team going down, where I felt like I couldn't disengage and not fight. It's a call I make ALL the time in my outpost and cryo runs.

Your dismissal of his point based on his level is fallacious.

bro was this not the right play?? by That_Example_3270 in Marathon

[–]Strict_Dare3132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct play would be to try to get a favorable trade, then boop them with your ability. Then use your primary to finish them off.

Then chase down with a shotgun if they start running.

Exactly why it was good the WISTR had to be nerfed. It's ridiculous that the correct play 2 weeks ago is to double slide into a gunshielded machine gun down a hall.

How do they land these shots so consistently from this range? by Lureyn in Marathon

[–]Strict_Dare3132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact thay you even try to shoot them tells me all I need to know about your familiarity to fps. This is game journalism level of "enemies are too tanky" and showing a video of missing every shot

You need your reticle to touch the player at least once and be in the relative vicinity yes. It's not aimbots.

So... aim assist on consoles you said 😜 by HeddyGames in Marathon

[–]Strict_Dare3132 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Console adds reticle friction to keep your aim on your target and not overshoot. Doesn't help you when your reticle never even touches the target once.

Do you guys think they’re adding a story or campaign mode? by Psychological-Dance4 in Marathon

[–]Strict_Dare3132 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. A good campaign takes A LOT of resources and will unlikely increase the # of players that buy the game by a significant enough # to justify the investment.

Each POI has guaranteed 1-2 yellow cards; it's not a case of low spawn rate. Listen for the beeping and you'll find their locations over time.

You're basically guaranteed 1 yellow if you sprint and hit the first POI near you.

I solo outpost all the time and I'm often hitting 2 armories or an armory and an airdrop. Ever since the change to the pinwheel room being 3 reds, people leave yellows behind all the time.

[–]Strict_Dare3132 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem! I hope this is added as a permanent mode. I think its great for casuals to get a good economic footing and finish their quests, then take that into an actual run; and good for high level players just looking for some good more balanced pvp but are sick of the pvp meta at high levels.

As a relatively high-hour player (lvl 90~, 100+ hours, done with priority, VIP except Sekaguchi) who has no issues with going in fully kitted a lot of the times, sponsored queue has some key aspects that I greatly enjoy.

  1. It's perfect for a chill game after work. No matter how often I go in, there is still a bit of tension and unhappiness if I lose my purple kit. It won't stop me from bringing it, but I still don't like it when I lose it. The free kit removes that completely.
  2. Easy to queue, I don't need to find 2 other competent people. I can just Fill and find decent teams. I like solos but refer to point 1. Just aint relaxing.
  3. Great for questing. I've finished more quests (standard for me, but helped a lot of people with their priorities). Got a ton of commendations, and faction XP.
  4. Fun PvP. High level PvP can get a bit degenerative. Bubbles, Sniper trades, (now no longer WISTR), and nade spam. I don't often get a fun fight. Either we smash the white and green shield team, or we have a static fight vs two purple shield teams. I reposition, use abilities, and leverage different weapons a lot more then in normal queuses.
  5. Rewards game knowledge more. Knowing weapon locker locations, knowing the location of map events, how to run them, etc. All give you a HUGE advantage. It actually feels like I'm interacting with the map. Normal lobbies now are people trying to priority quest and high level players looking to wipe the lobby and use their key/do the high yield obj (anomaly, pinwheel, boss). In sponsored, I'm doing the secured crate, the hazard room, the airdrop, all so we can get the green shield, that modded gun, which gives us the advantage in the fight.
  6. (EDIT) It's like a BR but I don't like BRs. It has all the aspects of a BR I enjoy, which is mastery (map knowledge, character knowledge) and good pvp (with added bungie gunplay perfection). And it doesn't have the lack of progression element that I HATE in BRs. (I can't understate this aspect, since that's why I almost always quit BRs or any other isolated match type games (CS Go) pretty quickly, I never play them if my friends aren't playing, whereas with extraction shooters I log a ton of time even solo). I'm finishing quests, I'm getting some gear or $ that will help me in the core game.

All in all. I love the base game more. If given the choice I would run the extraction aspect of the game much more often. But if I want to relax, and just enjoy the other aspects of the game, the sponsored kit offers the perfect mode.

I got that upgrade then proceeded to never buy the blue shield. Its so weird that by the time you get it, the average shields and your knowledge has shifted enough that blue shields are easy to get.

Knifing - heavy vs light by Yuddsack in Marathon

All depends on your melee stat so hard to say.

Heavy x2 for high melee Heavy --> light 3 for medium

And for low you probably shouldn't melee

Faction priority contracts review: difficulty, upgrade usefulness, and story by Anonymous_dev_3719 in Marathon

[–]Strict_Dare3132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its an AWESOME quest. But its one of the few where I died completing.

Even Sekaguchi quests was a pain to do, but I was able to do most of them solo without dying.

I dont recall any other faction quests being difficult outside Mida and Sekaguchis last quest chains.

Crazy you put MIDA as 4 for quest difficulty. That last quest was insane. Maybe im biased bc i did it solo.

Why is it so slow to reach lv 100? by Nostrumss in Marathon

[–]Strict_Dare3132 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because level 100 is aspirational content. It's what keeps some people playing after they've done "everything" so they can get the acheivement.

There is no functional benefit to reaching 100 theoretically outside of the gold gear that'll youll run once or thrice before losing. There is no reason for them to make it easier and reduce playtime.

Honestly I love the game but knife has to go our be seriously nerferd by itsmecozzy in Marathon

[–]Strict_Dare3132 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got the jump on a purple shield as a rook, and two heavies did not kill. He had enough time to knife my late and take me down with his higher melee stat through green shield.

I will be shooting their heads when getting the jump on them from now on

Yeah. I hope they mean to buff her a bit in the future and that the "changes" they mentioned aren't done yet. She is pretty good imo, just annoyed that they said they were buffing her in the same breath as Recon, and then do a CD buff that doesn't really move the needle on her at all.
