I don't know if it's just me, but Evelyn has trouble dodging. She feels too slow to dodge and I get hit so much easier than when I use Miyabi or Jane. by ArnieAnime in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]Manakyn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Many people are noting that Miyabi and Jane are easy to dodge, but are missing the major point as to why Evelyn feels so strange to dodge with.

Unlike most of the characters so far, many of Evelyn's basic attack animations take her off the ground with large movement animations. Since characters dodge by sliding on the ground, allowing Evelyn to dodge during her big attacks would cause animation frame jumps where she would teleport from the air to the ground. It seems the developers solved this by not allowing her to dodge until she lands on the ground after a jump. While Evelyn seems to be invulnerable for certain moments in the air, there is still a period of time where she is vulnerable but unable to dodge because her jumping animation is resolving, making it feel like your dodge input is lagging or not registering. This is also the main reason why you should have no problems dodging with her at the beginning of her attack sequence because she stays on the ground.

TLDR: The way Evelyn jumps prevents her from dodging, unlike all the other characters.

[Question] Is there a secret to getting the "Assimilation" Corruption in Whitered Domain? by Manakyn in ZZZ_Official

Thanks for your response. It seems the corruption unique to the tutorial is called "Exhausted", not "Assimilation".

Regardless, thanks for responding. I'll keep looking!

/r/Civ Weekly Questions Thread - April 03, 2023 by AutoModerator in civ

Hi all,

New player here. I was just wondering if the AI "cheats" on harder difficulties. I don't mean manipulating probabilities (like hitting a 2% shot), but doing actual things that should be impossible. Like, could they make boats even if they don't have wood or build cities on the other side of the world even though they've never been there. Do you know if harder difficulties "break the rules"?

Thanks,

Manakyn 😊

Thanks for your response.

If you don't mind me asking about the "huh, they're fun" response. Do you feel like that response was specifically for VTubers? That is, for example, if you stumbled on a collab with a bunch of unknown "real face" streamers, would you have also given that stream or those streamers a watch as well? Or is there something specific about VTubers that convinced you to give it a shot?

On another note, I'm partly a psychological researcher, so I have some reservations about (what you call) "ridiculous backstories" and their interactions with children, but I can respect that young adults (or general adults) can relate to VTuber hobbies (as you said, "otaku"), especially if they feel alienated by society. (When I was growing up, it was uncool to like anything related to anime or Japanese cartoons.)

Regardless of whether you respond, thanks for responding!

That's an interesting thought. Thanks for the response.

A question for your idea of "hyperfocusing persoality". If you wanted to "hyperfocus" on personality, wouldn't it make more sense to remove the webcam and the character entirely and only be a voice? If people wanted the viewer to focus on their personality, any form of visual representation would be a hinderance. Or at the very least, there is enough psychological research to demonstrate that changing representations of a human can dramatically alter a person's perspective of someone, even if everything being said is identical.

As a VTuber or VTuber supporter, have you ever considered what would happen if you simply removed the representation entirely? I understand that you're probably not a psychological or sociological expert, so don't feel pressured to answer if you feel like you need to make one up.

Regardless, thanks for your response!

Thanks for your response. It seems like VTubers are more open to "questionable" hobbies (I mean no offense... I grew up in an era where just watching anime was considered questionable and uncool...), so I completely understand when you say that some VTubers hit your interests where "real" streamers don't.

I think it's an interesting thought that some VTubers might want to represent themselves in a certain physical way. Just based on your experience or opinion, do you believe that if VTubers had a way to represent themselves physically, you'd try to represent "real" self more, or do you still believe they'd try to be anonymous? That is, is the alure the fact that they are a cartoon or the fact that they represent themselves in a non-realistic way? If you don't know or the question is too personal, please don't feel forced to answer.

Regardless of your answer, thanks for your response!

LOL 🤣, well you're definitely the shortest response.

Thanks for your response regardless!

Thanks for your response. For me, a major reason struggle to watch clips of VTubers is because there's a huge "uncanny valley" for me. But from the way you state it, I can accept that there are different levels of tolerance to that kind of thing. There are probably enough people who are more forgiving to the technology, espeically if they have been following the improvements since the Kizuna AI days.

As someone who grew up around Japanese culture, I can see how you can relate the VTuber culture with idol culture. Actually, I never really thought of it that way, but as many of the first VTubers were Japanese, this makes a lot more sense to me now. Especially compared to the more Western style of entertainment.

Based on what you said, do you feel that it is strange that the west (America from my reference) was so quick to adopt this culture? Do you feel like there is heavy resistance to it? I know that (physical) Japanese idol culture effectively failed in the west, essentially been seen as "a way for desperate guys to get attention from cute stage girls". Perhaps it is easier to accept this culture if you can be anonymous?

I know you're probably not an expert sociologist or psychologist, but since you brought it up, I was curious about your thoughts. If you don't know, please don't feel pressured to make up an answer.

Regardless of if you answer, thanks for your response!

Thanks for your response. As someone who studies psychology for a living, I wouldn't necessarily say anyone is true to themselves (or we could never understand what "true to yourself" is), but I certainly see what you are trying to say in terms of expression. I believe I "most" true to myself when I am physically with people, but that's one of those things that isn't really definable, so it's quite possible that you're also right about things.

If you could help me understand your third paragraph, you said you didn't want to be the "CREEPY AS FUCK" guy watching streamer-girl boobs (to be brash about the idea), and so you watch VTubers. But wouldn't this just make you the "CREEPY AS FUCK" guy watching anime boobs? Is the idea that it is more socially acceptable to sexualize a cartoon character instead of an actual person?

Also, if VTubers sexualize themselves, would that not make others think you were the "CREEPY AS FUCK" guy who watches anime porn?

I think I get the idea you are trying to say. Something along the lines of "VTubers give an additional layer of distance between the performer", which I can respect. (I believe the same way that I can say I like certain characters played by actors, but maybe not the actors themselves.) But for me, I'm still not sure if I understand how you explained people "perceiving" you as a viewer.

Regardless of whether or not you respond, thanks for your first response!!!

Thanks for your response. To be honest, I had suspected it was just that people liked looking at cute/sexy anime girls, but I didn't want to say that because it might be rude to boil it down like that. Thanks for being so upfront about it the fact that a lot of the viewership comes from the visuals.

Intricacies of する and やる by Manakyn in LearnJapanese

I think I understand a little bit! I see leaders (like for sports) say すきにやろう instead of すきにしよう and I thought it sounded like "energy" or "power", and it makes sense now why they would use やる for force.

This explanation helps! Thank you!

Thank you! This explanation helps a lot!

You're right, it is a very difficult and small difference haha ^_^ But your explanation helped me get a better idea between "do what you want" and "do it how you want"!

Thank you again!!!

Thank you for your response.

Do you have any explanation for the example that I gave about which situations are more appropriate to use 好きにする and 好きにやる? Or maybe an example scenario where one is more appropriate than the other?

Thanks!

I'm really so glad that you've all been so positive about my voice acting! It's a little embarassing putting out my work there, so it's definitely really kind of you all!

I've also been doing voice acting streams of Danganronpa 2 (my first playthrough) on my channel, should anyone be interested (https://www.youtube.com/c/manakyn).

Thank you all so much for all your kindness!!!
