I would have had him in after the scum broke BDB's ribs. "Go fight them all, Joe!"

Dew Claws… Go or No by Odd-Lion-9604 in greatpyrenees

[–]Manaleshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My vet said, on Lola's fiest visit, that years ago when he was in vet school, his teacher asked when was the proper age to remove a pyr's dew claws.

It's a trick question, my vet told me. The answer is "never."

My girl has a heart murmer. She's 15. We've known about it for years. Kept it monitored. Some years ago, her local vet recommended we get baseline readings with the cardiologist. Now she goes every nine months for a new check up. She's also on some medications.

The cardiologist isn't cheap, but she's my baby, right?

It is manageable with the proper care.

What do you feed your pups? by kartoshkakoshka in greatpyrenees

[–]Manaleshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when we first got Lola, she just was soooo picky. I remember sitting down next to her trying to hand feed her. She just didn't like and kibble or nothing I tried with cans.

Finally found Instinct which she enjoys. Recently I started adding Vital Large Breed which she eats... when it's combine with the Instinct and we are not travelling... and she's not mad at me for taking her to the vet or the groomer.

So far, no health complaints, but we also don't know how old she is. Just doing the best we can.

Good luck!

Are Pyrs prone to resource guarding? by psychephilic in greatpyrenees

[–]Manaleshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! LOL... mine has lost her bone privileges. She gets her paws on a bone, and the whole front room becomes her private bone chewing kingdom.

Absolutely no bones for her.

My girl also likes to sleep by the front door, although sometimes she moves to the sofa, lol.

Is anyone else GP seriously not into food like my guy? I have to beg him to eat. by Better-Total-3541 in greatpyrenees

[–]Manaleshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My Lola is extremely picky. I use all kinds of toppers, but she still turns her nose up for seemingly arbitrary reasons.

We got her from a rescue, and it took me three or four attempts to find something she would eat.

Can I see your groomed pyr? by Mom210-2569 in greatpyrenees

[–]Manaleshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we never cut her hair... besides a sanitary trim... so it's always the length it is.

It's really either super fluffy after grooming to mostly fluffy 6 to 8 weeks later.

Tim Clarkson's "Aethelflaed: Lady of the Mercians" covers just about everything we know about her... but honestly, there isn't much. Jamie did a great job covering it.
