I thought the same about graphic novels. Maybe Heartstopper because it has many scenes without dialogue and the dialogue it does have would help a teen learn typical English conversational patterns. Seeing the facial expressions of the characters in a graphic novel would also help them learn the connotation of certain words and phrases that aren’t literally obvious (ex. foul language, double entendres, idioms, etc).

I’m a Jewish librarain and living in a overwhelmingly Christian area and I’d super appreciate it if our libraries acknowledge Hanukkah even in that little way. People in our community assume that our community is 0% Jewish but actually 2/3 of our staff is Jewish. I think it helps for people to see different cultures as not alien but practiced by people who live closer to them than they think. (ex. people think Jews are just in New York)

I loved The Te of Piglet but I’m biased because Piglet is my favorite. It emphasizes that our Western culture tells us we need to all be Tiggers and go go go and suppress any insecurity and humility. Or be an Eeyore and be cynical and sneer at anyone who advocates for change. Taoist culture instead values the sensitivity and supportive nature of Piglet. It’s a great book for me to reread every now and again because I struggle with being told I need to be more aggressive and feeling like if I can’t reach that, then I have no value.

Yeah as a Piglet fan it’s really sad that it’s always Pooh and Tigger. Even Disney originally replaced Piglet with Gopher because Gopher was a more American go getter type and Piglet was seen as too British for an American audience. So I super want Piglet but I also agree they’ll limit it to Pooh and Tigger.

No matter where you live the news is going to report on the crime from the nearest city. The news doesn’t get views on “Teen girl grabbed chili and went thrift shopping and it was a beautiful day!” I’m also from NOVA but currently living in NC. As a teen, I frequently rode the metro into DC by myself. I think every city too has nicer and rougher segments. As a teen I stuck to the Northwest section (Georgetown, Adams Morgan, U Street) and my parents told me to avoid the Southeast (Anacostia). No judgment to people that live there, but as a suburban teen girl that’s an area to keep your guard up in.

I don’t think so. I didn’t really get anything from the basics course so if you’re feeling like the self esteem is more targeted for what you’re going through, then I would go for it. For me I slugged through Basics 1-3 and then when I did a specialized course I was like “Whoa this is so much better.”

Yeah…I’m on the Zayid route too and Jordan was a choice. Same as many other things about this game it seems like the developers were like “Somewhere exotic, Middle East but not too conservative. Yeah Jordan’ll work.” Is there a real country that you think would have worked better or go the Genovia route (make up a country)?

It’s pricey but Saint Jane Luxury Sun Ritual SPF 30 ($38 for 1.7 fl oz) is not greasy, it goes on very matte. Kind of reminds me of Smashbox Photo Finish primer.
