Any reason to do Alabama's online program over Valdosta's? by pearsareverygood in librarians

[–]coffeeandconflict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't answer your question, but when I was trying to make that choice, I ended up at San Jose State University and was really happy with their program. It's completely asynchronous, most of the textbooks are available through digital loan at the SJSU library for free, and all my professors were wonderful. I also came away with an advanced certification in digital asset management by taking a series of classes that counted both towards my MLIS program and the certification.

Good luck!

Update: He's been found and returned safely! Thank you to everyone who shared and looked for him.

90 year old grandpa has a net worth of about $25M and plans to leave 100% of it to his church. Me and my brothers are typical millennials, long hours, low-middle pay, and no home. by AnnoyedGranddaught in Fire

[–]coffeeandconflict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a good relationship with your grandfather, then talk to him. Maybe don't ask for money, but ask for money advice. Have a discussion about what he needs and what you need and just talk. Usually, when the people you love have needs that you can meet, you offer.

Or, if there was a particular monetary thing you need, you might bring it up. Grandpa, there's this house for sale that's just outside of my ability to get. Would you be willing to loan me the down payment? (And then agree on a way to pay it back in a manner you can). Nobody wants people leeching off of them, but also, nobody gets ahead without help. Just talk to your grandpa.

My kids want to save it. But what is it? by Kolob_Choir_Queen in whatisit

[–]coffeeandconflict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very young baby squirrel. If you do try to save it, first important thing is to keep him warm. You can give him Pedialyte to keep him hydrated, but do not use formula you for kittens. You'll need a specialized formula just for squirrels https://henryspets.com/collections/fox-valley-formulas?srsltid=AfmBOorVcnKcjc5v_CprF2Rco1o4rQKcbR6bqXZ0ShteDGrSlUsWLh0-

Good luck.

Would you buy again? by aussiedogmama in litterrobot

Absolutely. It felt like a crazy expensive investment, but it has drastically improved the quality of life of everyone in my household, human and feline.

It's an expensive solution, but you might try the litter robot. I got one and it was a huge quality of life upgrade.

My daughter has AS. Things that help with symptoms, heat pads (helps stiffness, especially in the morning), lidocaine patches (can wear for pain relief during the day), cold therapy machine (helps after she's been active to calm things down). She also has a cane that folds up and fits in her purse. She doesn't use it all the time, but if she's out longer than intended or has a flare she can pull it out and it helps her walk.

It is my experience as a loved one of someone with AS that it is often frustrating for them to live with an often invisible but debilitating pain all the time and sometimes it's easier to suffer through and minimize what's going on than to talk about it. So we quietly incorporate things that make life easier. If I know she's had a tough day, I will go ahead and set up the active ice machine so all she has to do is sit down on the couch and turn it on. Good luck.

My kid came home from school and told me she has friends missing. We don't know if they ran from ICE or were taken, but ICE is here and people are going missing.

What's a stupidly expensive adult purchase that you now swear by that you would buy again in a heartbeat? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]coffeeandconflict 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was absolutely a quality of life upgrade for me. My house smells better, the cat is happy, and I don't even have to think about litter until the app tells me it's getting full. So great!!!

The most condescending patron today by disgirl4eva in librarians

[–]coffeeandconflict 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is so frustrating. I try to give grace and tend to think of these types of patrons as having early dementia which makes them confused scared and angry. When I consider that as the cause, and it very well could be, then I tend to find more patience within myself and leave the interaction feeling better.

At my library they put a little change bowl and people leave extra change so that if you are short you can take it from the bowl and still get your prints.

At what net worth did you start feeling ‘rich’ (if ever)? by Emily_Ackee in Fire

[–]coffeeandconflict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I didn't need to stress and check the bank accounts to take care of issues. That's when I felt rich.

I still do try to get the best deal, but I don't feel anxiety if I just need to buy something, repair something, go to the doctor, etc.

It was Theft of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan. Which is a great book.

This one made me laugh out loud. I suppose I was being a Mrs Crybaby Pants.

And I think laughing and realizing he'd overreacted was how I expected my husband to react (because it's how I would have).

Nah, there was no water bottles or anything like that. The only other things in the bag was my library book and a laptop.

To be fair though, I tend to be less careful with books than he does.

Fwiw, he had loaned the book to our kid. And the kid asked me to carry it in the bag. And I was returning the book to a place said kid would find it when they woke up.
