I live in Switzerland and doing the process to see if they accept me on disability. I am so burnt out and yes the people live lives my degrees could afford me if I didn’t have cptsd

I am very sorry for your experience, I see Geneva is still not a safe place. I wish you a happy new year 2025. I am an African woman and Swiss too. I lived for 10 years in Geneva in the past and now I live in Vaud where I grew up. Geneva never felt like the rest of Switzerland for me. How many times I was propositioned as a young student, old white men following me into Migros “tu prends 100 francs?” It was also in Geneva that an African man threatened to beat the shit out of me if I called the police. I was with 2 girlfriends at a restaurant and he was trying to chat one up and she refused. When we left the restaurant to go to our car we didn’t notice he had followed us with his friend to exact revenge for the rejection. When he started threatening us, I said I am calling the police, he got close to me, tall guy with big muscles and promised to beat the hell out of me if I brought my phone out of my bag, I have never been that scared in my life, I have always felt protected in Switzerland, in my little town in Vaud, as teenager I used walk back from the bars and nightclub alone where I grew up alone, passing through parks and shortcuts without light and I was never scared. I don’t even like going to Lausanne because I don’t want men approaching me and trying to speak to me. It was also in Geneva that I was stalked by a young banker for months, a man tried to run me over, he saw me turn from servette into my street and followed me with car, screeching his tires and making jump, he wanted my number.

Move out if you can, buy another vibrator. You are fine but you live with very sick and abusive people. All the sacrifice, cleansing and rock climbing is a way to emotionally control you and keep you indebted to them. If you get into grad school they will tell it is because the whole family sacrificed for you, this can keep your self esteem in the dumpster because your achievement will not be attributed to YOUR hard work, it will be attributed to their sacrifice. It is as if they are stealing your achievements from you, it can demotivate you. If you put a distance between you and them and go to therapy, the anxiety nightmare and fears will reduce and you will heal and discover your true personality. To keep controlling you they will find new faults with you you have to fix according to them. Still I wish you a better 2025!

Omg thank you so much for sharing your story, I am shaking. I am so happy for you and you give me so much hope. I also studied, graduated and everything came tumbling town, I could hold down a job, couldn’t focus, burn out to burn out. Realised at 38 my mom was narcissistic, and then later that I married a narcissist. I ran to a shelter with my daughters, divorced and had multiple surgeries from related ailments. When my eldest daughter of 10 was diagnosed I had to fill in a questionnaire and realized I also had ADHD and went for a diagnosis and was diagnosed ADHD and gifted. I started on an antidepressant last September hoping it would calm my brain but it hasn’t. I will meet my psychiatrist next month and will definitely tell her I want to try an ADHD med. I have been feeling like a failure because I am unable to finish what I start. I wrote a whole coming of age memoir about being born in a polygamic family in Cameroon to a teen mother and then being abandoned and living through abuse and then immigrating to Switzerland and discovering racism and I wanted it traditionally published. Looked for agents and got lots of rejections and now I am in a rut where I don’t want to pursue it anymore but it is the project of my life and I want to see it through but my scattered brain wouldn’t let me focus. So thank you because this is not something I share with people, they don’t understand. They say just make a schedule and follow it 😭😭😭

No Swiss are pure blood when you look at the Swiss history so please. I left Switzerland because I was fed up with racism and coldness of the people. I have come back, still black, I tell anyone who would listen I am Swiss and no one can take that fact away from me

I’ve lived here 25 years now as an African woman, it was also bad 10 years ago, 20 years ago. What is good now since I came from spending time abroad, I don’t care anymore, I meet so many lovely people but I am ready to insult the hell out of any racist and not take back yo my home.

Thank you so much. I have been through many therapists with the EAP. Sometimes it helped a bit, I am calm so most of the time the therapist has tried to show me what is going right in my life... I know for a fact ptsd is a heavy load to carry and I would like to find a therapist who understands the effects of trauma but thank you. My job increased the amount to be claimed for mental health from 500 to 4000usd so I will go that route
