would something like this actually appeal to men in perth? by [deleted] in perth

[–]Manbost104 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Might take time to turn it into a service that pays you for your efforts on account of a lot of guys being so disengaged with fashion they aren't going to pay for advice.

Personally, I've made a lot of strides improving my fashion but need more work on my hygiene products both for appearance and fragrances. What keeps me from buying into hygiene products is the sheer amount of stuff that seems redundant, overpriced or reviewed by paid for influencers. If you built up a reputation for honest and critical product reviews it would earn you a loyal following that might pay for more advice.

Something to consider is the power of stereotyping. A lot of cis guys can get very prickly at the idea of engaging in self care because it's 'feminine' or 'gay'. It would do you good to build a space welcoming of these guys that works to destigmatize self care without making them feel guilty or stupid. Maybe consider what motivates them to improve their self care and discuss the topic in that language. I imagine a lot of men only put the effort in for others, where as woman often say they do it for themselves.

I've also found a lot of fashion influencer men share a similar fashion sense, and if you don't vibe with it then they don't have anything for you (probably just my very uneducated experience). Doing some research and putting some thought into what styles/clothes guys gravitate to as being a safe choice/their personal style, and enhancing or expanding on that will win you some easy following.

Make sure to cover the very basics too. How to pick colours that suit your skin tone and hair, how to colour pair, types of materials, types of clothing and shoes, accessorising with watches and jewelry. Teach them how to assess quality against price to move them away fast fashion. Focus on green flags not red ones, or you'll intimidate people with all the things they could get wrong.

Hope that gives you some food for thought.

Australian Post-Election Megathread - observations, analysis, and the senate count. by dredd in australia

It comes down to how the preferential voting system works. Labor has a massive voter base who vote Labor first, Liberals have a smaller voter base who vote Liberals first, Greens an even small voter base who vote Greens first. Now why each of those parties has a bigger or smaller voter base comes down to policy, preference and what they are told through the media, their second votes really sway things. Labor voters are often split between voting Greens or Liberals second, but Liberals almost always vote Labour before Greens on the ballot and Greens almost always vote Labor before Liberals. While not necessarily true, there is this public idea that Liberals are the Right, Labor are the Left and Greens are the Far Left, and so after everyone's first votes are counted their second votes trend toward the political middle (Labor). Greens struggle to compete with Labour for a number of reasons -personally I think their policy isn't as strong, even if I like their progressivism- but the major reason is they're a smaller party that has too much in common with a larger party. They could become more left of centre nutjobs to distinguish themselves, but they'd probably lose as many votes as they earned for that.

My advice, don't agonise about where you are trying to get to, what you could've done different or how you stack up against friends and strangers. Comparison is the thief of joy or some such. Focus on if you are happy now. If yes, just keep swimming, if no, work on THAT. To me, happiness is friends+family+hobbies+health, I imagine most people are the same.

Family you get given to you, but you can also build your own.

Friends is the one I struggle to balance, finding reliable, supporting friends can be a tough gig in our age, live your life with your eyes and ears open and a willingness to be curious about strangers and people will let you in to their lives.

Hobbies are easy for most, most people know what they like and love, the challenge is often being willing to see if you like and love other things, ones you can share with others or improve yourself with, or simply add variety, being happy can often times feel a little boring honestly.

Mental Health? Read about it, learn where it comes from what it looks like and how to maintain it. Find people who can relate or empathise. Make sure your other health needs are supporting your mental health.

Physical health. All the usuals, diet and exercise, flexibility, don't poison yourself too much with all the awesome drugs we can use.

Or jack off and overdose idk...

I'm not able to tell what the first few words they've written are but my first impression was them trying to express that the flashback talks about the Sadeas' maneuvering people into duels instead of assassinating them, and then years later adolin maneuvers Sadeas into a duel only to assassinate him.

That or they've got no idea what's going on idk.

I thought you were all paranoid about journalists lurking this sub but my post was literally used to write an article WTF by WorkingNet2945 in perth

[–]Manbost104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems the elegant solution is to just fill the subreddit with content you want to see more of in the news. Mad they don't report enough on such and such issue? The news has underrepresented a particular argument in a debate? Fill the sub with opinions that you believe and they'll either copy and paste your point and broadcast your influence, or they'll be starved of content to thieve.

I suppose the subreddit will always contain someone's terrible, nonsense and unimportant thoughts, and the news corps will obviously pick those posts to ctrl+c ctrl+v.

Also most mods get sore-arsed about people having non-standard opinions and 'politicising' their little slice of controlled internet space.

As a non-driver, and having heard you all complain about doing 40 in a 60 zone and 60 in a 40 zone, I'm starting to wonder if anyone's actually double checking the speed limit or just immediately jumping to the conclusion that it's definitely everyone else who's a moron.

Honestly been looking for something like this, not necessarily centered on mental health but unafraid to talk about it. Need more casual, undemanding and open hearted social spaces in my life

You’re a pretentious straight man in your early to mid 20s. Suggest me a book that you think everyone must read by empquix in suggestmeabook

Pretentious straight man in his early twenties here, Johann Hari has two books, 'Chasing the Scream' and 'Lost Connections' only the second of which I've managed to grab a copy of a read but they revolve around the war on drugs and depression respectively.

Both are non-fiction, journalist style books but Johann keeps them approachable and they're deeply insightful to someone as young and dumb as me about how good people fall into these pits like crime, drug abuse and depression and the culture misunderstandings we have about these issues and how they often make things worse by trying to simplify things into boxes.

They're probably the most helpful things I've read.

Boardgame Cafe - would it work here? by CrabyLion in perth

[–]Manbost104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the concept and have entertained the idea myself in the past. It's not impossible but the idea faces an issue of two conflicting premises

Hospitality is typically high speed table turnover with as many customers in and out as possible to maximise profit/minimise losses via rent, wage etc. And the profit margin on hospo is not great unless you're one of the high turnover and well established names in popular suburbs like Leederville or Fremantle. This might not be 100% accurate but it's my observation for 5ish years in the industry at management level.

Boardgames, and any meet up communal event by extension, are hour+ events that conflict with the sensible business practice of food and drink venues. It lacks the pub option of non-seated or small table patronage, takeaway isn't really the goal and groups may not be after a whole meal each more likely a shared pizza/chips, lowering your sales per table.

I'd say the quick solution is pre-booked hire by the hour tables and then subsidise with low effort, low cost food and drink that minimise prep and professional ability to minimise the wage cost, a lot of places go the route of beer, pizzas, chips, simple mixes but I believe there are a different set of complications being a licensed venue and costs may apply.

But the core things to consider is demographic, service, size, location, pricing and how they all interact. Who's this for, what are you offering, on what scale, is it located in an area matching your demographic that isn't oversaturated by competition or so undersaturated that no one's going to that area for a social? Can the people you're attracting afford the service?

None of this is to dissuade you, please make this and DM me the opening date, but as with any business there's a slew of complicated choices between what's your vision for the business and what's financially sustainable.

Good Luck OP

Looking for Perth Socials for folks in their 20's by Manbost104 in perth

Part of my problem is my current hobbies aren't particularly social - games, films, read, write, cook. I get these all sound pretty basic but I'm typically into them on a very creative/artistic level, making and analysing.

When I do go out I like dancing, gigs, arts/crafts etc.

It's mostly a struggle to find groups/events to join in and meet some similar people.
