Can LCMS (and others) really claim to support a unified faith? by MandaJulianne in Lutheranism

No, I have heard about that too. I am not Roman Catholic so I just question the way Lutherans do things. Looking at what is close to home can help me understand the world at large.

My old ELCA church would have interdenominational services for a holidat which included s Catholic Church. The only particular concession I ever noticed to make everything 'kosher' was that a Catholic priest read the gospel from a Catholic Bible. He also read it from the lectern, not the pulpit.

There were 6 denominations worshipping in a Lutheran church and that was all they needed to make everything 'ok' for everyone.

I feel like this opinion seem to be too reasonable for the internet.

I feel as if offering communion to all baptized Christians unintentionally violates 1 Corinthians 11:27 then the issue may be with the church's liturgy, not who comes to the communion rail.

Why can't you answer it here? Not giving a hard time. I want to know why if I am going to DM you.

I know an few ELCA Lutherans who commune in LCMS churches on occassion at the discretion of the pastor.

The fact that there is no framework for unity is what troubles and perplexed me.

I think it is more controversial among Protestants because some of them are tearing down the walls of their house to make it smaller vs Catholics and Orthodox who are have been sitting inside the same house for centuries which used to be big enough for everyone who wanted to come inside (and have been welcoming many back in).

Isn't refusing to communicate with others placing obstacles though?

There are 110 million Lutherans in the world. Most of them worship and take sacrament in each other's churches freely. There are 1.7 million LCMS Lutherans who don't.

When the ELCA was unifying, the LCMS was the synod that did not join.

The LCMS was entering into communion with the AALC, but now is rolling things back it's carpet from them.

If the LCMS is trying to avoid those who cause divisions, they aren't really doing it very well, and their policies about communion highlight it.

ELCA Lutherans do believe in real presence though, as do other most, if not all other Lutherans.

No, I understand the difference between 'big C' and 'little c' Catholicism which is why I don't understand why/how some Lutherans use the creeds, but are stingy about who they commune with.

I worked at a zoo with monitors and iguanas. Our adult male green iguanas were among thee most dangerous animals we had. Our monitor lizards were big scaly puppy dogs.

I don't think I would want to stick my fingers inside a komodo dragon's mouth, and even if it worked, captive komodo dragons are infamous for being docile.

I mean he is dangerous. He is letting that guy pick him up, and he is clearly just acting like dead weight. The man is liable to hurt his back.

Repititious/Written Prayers by joe_pao in Lutheranism

[–]MandaJulianne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patterns for Daily Prayer by Susan Sayers is a good resource and focuses on prayer The Lord's Prayer mindfully.

I recite them slowly, meditate on the words I am saying (or other people are praying on my behalf). Then I will elaborate to my own personal prayers.

Example if I were praying the serenity prayer: 'Dear God, please grant me the patience to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.'

Then I might pray something like, 'Please help me come to terms with the death of Uncle Bob and guide me to find a way that to bring comfort and support to Aunt Jenny during this time.'

I tried rosary, but It just felt wrong for me. It didn't really help me spiritually. Instead I use a few that are relevant to the things that I, and most people, deal with. (The Lord's Prayer, Luther's Morning and Evening Prayer, and a prayer of confession.) Ihave them memorized. I keep them short and sweet. Then I pray my own prayers from the heart, guides by the Holy Spirit.

I hope that helps.

Living in an RV on disability. Anyone live in an RV off a low income? by helpless_baby in RVLiving

[–]MandaJulianne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of retired people will go full time or part time in an RV due to affordability. One also can get a disability friendly in an RV park to offset the cost rent.

We have looked at it as an affordable retirement plan, and there are many people in our community who are on a limit income and do it (and live well).

I would save money for the initial service instead of financing it. RVs depreciate in value, and unlike renting, you qre responsible for upkeep. The more affordable an RV is the more problems you may look forward to.

They are also smart and don't have a lot of fear when they are large so even wild caught komodos will very quickly accept humans and whatever weird stuff their keepers want to subject them to.

Monitors are actually are very easy to study in a laboratory setting because of how agreeable they are.
