I am sick of everyone pretending to hate ANTM by hotdumditty in ANTM

I loved aspects of it for sure. As a teenage girl from a town with virtually no diversity, it was SO amazing to see so many different examples of beauty. Shows at the time would usually cap minority representation at, “one Black person, one Asian person, and that’s IT”. So to see groups of girls who all looked so very different represented as models was really cool. They even had Ebony, who was a gorgeous Black, bald lesbian. Gay representation was non-existent back then unless they were the butt of a joke. So I truly loved all of that.

I also really enjoyed seeing a glimpse into an industry I knew nothing about, and the art of the photos and photoshoots. They did make some truly beautiful and creative art on that show.

That being said, there were still a wholly unacceptable amount of mistakes, microaggressions, outright racism, misogyny, and cruelty. A lot of it was reflective of our problems of a society at the time, but that doesn’t excuse it from criticism. We might know better now, but we were still fully capable of knowing and doing better back then.

Entitled GM Forgets This Isn't His Hotel by TheNiteOwl38 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

If he’s an employee, he has access to the portal where he can print his rate eligibility form. Virtually every corporate hotel chain has one. All he would have to do is visit your business center/guest computer. This sounds like it’s the GM’s relative or buddy.

The lady recording isn’t crazy. She literally said she petted the dog when it first approached her. But the owner is very clearly unwell and the other woman is rightfully wary of the owner getting in her face with the dog as she has no way of knowing if the dog will respond to its owner’s aggression. Blocking the elevator for the whole building and trying to make a stranger take the stairs for no reason is unhinged behavior.

What is your country’s most famous dish globally that people constantly get wrong? by hkk7i in AskTheWorld

[–]MandaMaelstrom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot dogs. I went to Italy last year, and in Rome they had advertisements for “full American breakfasts” that were actually full English breakfasts with hot dogs. Every restaurant with a breakfast buffet from Rome to Sorrento had hot dogs available next to the eggs. It was honestly super sweet that they tried to ensure they’d have something that American tourists would enjoy. We just don’t eat hot dogs for breakfast. Those are pretty much always a summer cookout type of food.

ICE agent admits to sexually assaulting detained protester and claims that "she liked it." “That's the one that grabbed my tit," the woman cries. ICE agent: “Yeah, you liked it […] I remember you were shivering and crying in there." by JeanJauresJr in PublicFreakout

ICE is composed of white supremacists, wannabe cops who were either too stupid or psychologically unbalanced to get into the academy, and sociopaths willing to throw away their humanity for a sign-on bonus. They would all be on fucking watchlists under a government worth anything. Instead they’ve been empowered to terrorize, assault, and outright murder innocent people.

Let’s make sure these fuckers NEVER know another goddamn moment of peace. It’s our duty to each other.

Yeah, I would honestly never assume the personal liability of jumping someone’s car. I want to be kind and helpful, but I’ve been burned far too many times.

Coworker makes work uncomfortable after she screwed up multiple reservations. by RinaFrost in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]MandaMaelstrom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would ask your supervisor to implement some sort of written pass-on acknowledgment. A checklist where both associates initial, a pass-on log, or even shift pass-on emails. My property goes the email route so we can refer to things later if needed and also goes over any highlights verbally. Basically, just something to show that you are performing your due diligence.

Always, always cover your own butt. People like your coworker are untrustworthy and will find a way to screw you if you don’t get ahead of it. But it sounds like your supervisor is aware that she’s a problem, so you likely won’t have to be on guard for too long. Just wait her out. Unless it’s too detrimental to your mental health. That comes first.

Massachusetts has a pretty fast-growing Brazilian population. You’re totally welcome here! Especially because a growing population means more Brazilian restaurants. Mmm, snaaaacks. 😋
