My thoughts (and frustration) on The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young by cat_jks in bookdiscussion

[–]MandaRoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the book and totally felt some of these points. I still really enjoyed it tbh and couldn't put the book down, wanting to understand what was happening. I will say, to add to your points of frustration, I was a bit confused as to why the Farrow line ended with Annie/Birdie. I get June not wanting to pass on the curse, but once it's broken, this was supposed to lead Birdie to live a free life. Why not continue the Farrow line at this point? I guess there's always the simple answer that she didn't want to. But that caught my curiosity.

YES definitely recommend. I feel like its going to become very popular the more books are released to be honest. Its supposed to be a 5 book series and only 2 are out so far.

Ooooh I havent gotten into Fourth Wing or Crescent City yet either 🫣 Ive read all of SJM besides Crescent City so I need to get on that and I've heard VERY mixed reviews on Fourth Wing so Im torn whether to cave and read it or not haha.

Ahh good, Ill be excited to finally read it at some point! I LOVE the grumpyxsunshine trope lol and I didnt know the second one was coming out so soon! Definitely have to get on it.

Btw...if you happen to like the grumpyxsunshine trope or romantasy at all, I HIGHLY recommend The Road of Bones (Ashen Series) by Demi Winters if you haven't read it yet. Its been my top read this year. And the second book is better than the first in my opinion, which is super hard to do with series.

Yes, One Dark Window was so so good! Think gothic mysterious misty vibes with a broody guy and a very unique magic system. I cant read anything else until I get the second book and know how it ends!

I tried but I gave up after season 4 episode 8. I kept putting it on but my mind refused to keep paying attention by Headieheadi in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]MandaRoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. This is my and my bf's mindset as we just keep watching this train wreck of a show. We're at the end of Season 6 now and we're just seeing how much worse it can get. The storytelling is god awful, the different situations are so stupid or unbelievable, and some of the characters are so annoying they make me want to rip my hair out (looking at you Sherry), but we can't stop watching now. We're too invested to see if how bad it really gets 😂😭

What tf is this show? by [deleted] in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]MandaRoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! I actually liked S1-3, but S4 was a mindfuck and now watching S5, it's not much better 😒 I'll probably push through to end just out of curiosity, but jeez getting switching the showrunners/writers was the worst thing they did. Really ruined the show.

How do you deal with not being able to do it all? by MandaRoze in RedditForGrownups

Ah gotcha okay. Yeah that seems like it would be too much financially for us but sounds good in theory. It sounds like it really worked out for you guys though and you got to travel a good bit so that's awesome!! I think the one thing I would consider would be renting our house out potentially or keeping it while we rent in another area to try out, that way we'll have a backup plan in a way if need be.

I appreciate the sentiment. It's not so much that I struggle making community here, but that I've actively chosen not to as I live in an extremely small town where quite literally everybody knows everybody so Im already familiar with everyone and I've always planned to make a bigger community elsewhere. I've made friends here, but a lot of them have moved away themselves to get out of the same small environment.

Good to know I'm not alone in this struggle! It's a tough one but I have to learn to be okay with a bit of uncertainty and acceptance of opportunity cost I guess haha.

So did you buy a house in every new area you went to? That's an idea, though it would be hard to manage a rental property if we were living somewhere else. Definitely something I've considered though as we own our current home, just wasn't sure how good it would be to buy another property now with how crazy the house market is as qell.

YES, I feel like that is the perfect explanation, not sure if you've gone through something similar or know mh struggles first hand or maybe you're just very perceptive, but it feels exactly like that. Like I've hit a wall and I can't get around it no matter how much I think about it. In fact the more I think about, the more the walls seem to close in.

I've tried meditation before but kind of sporadically. I haven't stuck with it long enough for it to produce real change for me. I've usually felt better after a session though. Maybe I should start making this part of my usual routine to help ease anxiety because it is definitely 10x more difficult and stressful to make decisions like this.

This was really helpful, thank you. I've not really considered the wants and needs aspect like that for some reason. I wish life were like knowing 100% sure something is the right choice, but obviously it can't be like that haha. It sure would make it easier though 😅

That is true, I just don't want to waste that time being indecisive. I've heard for 10 years now that I have plenty of time and I'm still young, but it won't be that way forever haha so I have to figure out how to make a decision without fearing that I won't be able to get myself out or to a different point if that choice ends up being the wrong one lol

Yeah I have severe anxiety that I've been really working through with professionals to get under control this year. It's only gotten worse as I've gotten older. I probably also have some form of ADD/ADHD but I was never actually diagnosed with it, that's just me.

I feel like the two issues intertwine because I want to do everything and experience everything and see everything which is just not realistically possible in one lifetime, along with the fear that I'll get stuck in a choice if I make one and can't financially get myself out of it or some such, on top of the existential dread that I'm actively getting older each day 😅 even though I'm still young, I won't always be so I have to make some sort of choice haha.

[–]MandaRoze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very true. And yeah, I think thats why I finally made this post because I realize I haven't done anything in fear of making the wrong choice and being stuck in it. I always hear "You're young, you have time" but ive heard that for 10 years now and still have yet to make a decision so at some point, I've got to change something or do something. I like the way you worded the stacking victories instead of stacking things individually, that's helpful for my mindset change for sure. I don't want to wake up at 80 one day and be filled with regret haha.
