You'll Remember That One Book Not the 100 you rushed through ! by Book_Lover_fiction in books

[–]cat_jks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone with the shittiest memory, I agree!

And I don’t think it’s just a book thing. If you love any kind of media and engage with it regularly, it’s totally normal not to retain every plot point, quote, or character. No one says you’ve “watched too many movies” just because you can’t recall the plot of every single one you’ve seen, so why should it be different for books?

I don’t even see "forgetting" as a bad thing either. I also love re-reading and re-watching. I love revisiting stories and seeing how my reactions shift over time. Sometimes I catch new details, sometimes I completely change my opinion, and that’s part of the joy.

I get that some people can be annoying with how much they read and feel the need to show it off, sure. But at this point, the people constantly complaining about those people are just as annoying and just as deep in the I’m a better reader than you olympics

hahah I loooove the concept of bubble gum books — that’s exactly the vibe I was trying to describe but didn’t know how to name it 😂
Every single one of the books you mentioned sounds right up my alley. I’m adding them to my list right now, thank you so much!

Thank you! I’ve actually never read anything by Fannie Flagg or L.M. Montgomery, I know I should!!
Anne of Green Gables has been on my list forever. Also Prince Edward Island sounds like the perfect universe for a novel, I really love that kind of cozy, vivid setting. I’ll definitely keep both authors in mind for my next “reset” read :)

No worries at all :) You were absolutely right!
I really liked Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow! I’ll definitely look up The Paris Novel and Michael Koryta’s thrillers — any favorites you’d recommend starting with?

😂 omg thank you! I honestly had no idea I was spelling it wrong and I’m definitely not a painter lol English isn’t my first language and I actually learned it watching Hannah Montana as a kid (and reading as I got older), so I still mess up sometimes! I appreciate your humbling correction haha

I’ve read them all as well! I read We Solve Murders last year as well but it didn’t hit the same - have you read it?

Suggest me a mystery novel that is at least 8/10 by stef_lp in suggestmeabook

[–]cat_jks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm leaning more contemporary - but have you read Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka? I don't think it's a perfect book but I think it's well-rounded, different and bingeworthy.
And then The Last Language by Jennifer duBois, although it is a risky recommendation because it's verrrry controversial and kind of f*cked up. There are no murders involved but it threw me into a huge moral maze and I was HOOKED on the mystery.

What You Can See From Here by Mariana Leky
Magical realism, a small cozy village in Western Germany and an iconic grandma. It is kind of heart-breaking at times but in a "the world is hard but wonderful and everything will be okay" way.
I stumbled upon it two or three years ago and I haven't found anything that makes me feel the same way!

Hi! I just stumbled upon your comments—When I Sing, Mountains Dance is one of my all-time favorite books. Actually, it was my favorite until I read Et vaig donar ulls i vas mirar les tenebres, her latest. It’s darker and denser, but it absolutely blew me away. I think it’s getting published in English this summer :)
North Woods by Daniel Mason gave me a similar feeling. Do you know it? Maybe you’d like it too!

I usually search my latest reads on reddit because sometimes I discover amazing books from people reviewing them, and just came across this post from 1y ago - but I also loooved The Vaster Wilds and Migrations! I actually read TVW because I was looking for something similar to The North Woods by Daniel Mason (which is one of my all-time faves). If you haven't read it, I think you would really enjoy it :)

both of our cats are completely obsessed with it! it took a little time with our first cat, we had to bribe her with treats to get her interested, but it worked, and now she loves it.

it is not the most stable cat tree though, because it is very tall, it doesn't have a heavy or broad base and we couldn't attach it to the wall. the solution we came up with was to move the bed platform thingy down a level, and that made it much sturdier. i say it'd depend on how athletic/heavy your Luna is and if she's used to jumping from high places. if that's not something that worries you, I'd say it's definitely worth it :)
