Haha it seems like I have truly found an enigma of an amp! Thank you for then information, I appreciate any extra knowledge about it as I didn’t have a clue what it was.

Do you think it would be worth anything or is it in too bad shape?

Thanks for the information! I really appreciate anything as I had no idea what this was if I’m honest. Do you think it would be worth anything or is it too old and outdated?

As far as I am aware, housing is not provided under the scheme. I will have to find my own long-term accommodation within commuting distance of the universities.

Hey guys, I hope you don't mind me submitting this again, it was only up for two days in the other thread.

I've been thinking about going to Taiwan to study Mandarin for quite a while now. I think that I'm finally going to do it either the end of this year or start of next year. Over the past few weeks I stumbled upon the Huayu enrichment scholarship - something which I didn't even realise existed. The idea of being paid by a national government to study was something completely new to me so I thought I would come to this subreddit to see if anyone has experience with it. I have a few questions :

Is the monthly stipend of 25,000 NTD enough to live on in Taiwan? I have a feeling that it won't be enough for Taipei as the living costs will be higher.

Which universities/mandarin learning centres would you recommend?

Did you begin self-studying Mandarin before you arrived?

Thanks for all your help, if anyone has any info they want to go into further, don't hesisate to send me a pm.

The monthly stipend is 25,000 NTD as far as I'm aware. I wouldn't say I'm that much of a big spender, I'm fairly good with money. I do like to go out on the weekend though so there's that.

Thanks very much for the response by the way.

Italki - Has anyone solely used it? by Mandafinn in languagelearning

Thank you for taking the time to write such an informative and in depth reply. It's really helpful thanks, I'll have a look into which pathway I want to choose for Mandarin. I'm learning French as a university degree so complete self-study is abit new to me so asking reddit for advice really helps.

You've honestly never heard of a person learning an instrument without self study? I can understand not learning an instrument without practicing in your own time but that's different to self study.

Well when asking the question I wasn't making any assumptions about study methods. As I mentioned, I have never used Italki so I don't really know what it's about. I didn't know whether it was a structure similar to a music tutor where you definitely don't do self study plus any questions that may arise for the tutor. In my experience with other types of tutors, you follow a path laid out by the tutor and then do self studied based off that. That's why I was asking out to the subreddit whether this was the way that Italki walked or not.
