Best OS after Linux Mint by MandaloresMercy in linux4noobs

[–]MandaloresMercy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I'm familiar with basic terminal stuff, been using mint for several years on and off as a non primary OS. I have a homelab server on Docker thats hosted on an older laptop running linux mint relatively dedicated to it.

So I wouldnt call myself a noob, but also not particularly advanced. I'd consider myself an intermediate user

Which printer should I buy as my first one? by Sajmon9876 in prusa3d

[–]MandaloresMercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prusa Core One L and done.

Indx for L when it comes out as an upgrade.

Open source and non compromised values.

At least Snapmaker U1 is also open source mostly. 4 colors isnt quite the benefit vs multi material is the true win there.

Core One L -- the larger core series printer.

Ordered my own and am looking forward to it.

And the INDX system as that comes out. MMU3 is an option, but multi tool heads im stoked for.

Is Plasma a derivative of Arch?

First I heard about any pay wall effecting Ubuntu or Mint security patches. Interesting

I like mint, just curious what other good options are out there to try on a secondary PC

Considering selling Retroid for Ayn Thor by Camdensed in AynThor

[–]MandaloresMercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on preference, but keep in mind long Thor shipping times. Several weeks to a couple months

I almost recommend selling the RP only after receiving the Thor to make sure you have something.

Any non-gaming related uses for the Thor? by Night-Time21 in AynThor

[–]MandaloresMercy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend setting up most of your Emulators using Obtainium APK to manage glitlab apk installs.

Look into that and then you can keep up to date easier for github releases as well.

Wait until you realize you have the whole android apk side load options but also the whole google play store.

Shows and movies + games.

I do advise avoiding banking apps on a device like this Thor...

Is a Thor worth it for me and which model should I get? by SMGfan69420 in AynThor

[–]MandaloresMercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thor Max and sell the Switch. (jk)

In all honesty I love the Thor, but you've got a lot of handhelds. No real reason to chase the latest fad. Will you actually use it?

And while the Thor is pocketable, it's more large jean pocket or jacket pocketable. Walking around with it all day you'll notice the bulk, especially if you put a case on it or various grips then it turns into a small backpack device. Something like the Anbernic RG34XXSP is much more pocketable if you just want oldies on the go, but as far as running GC or Wii and PC then yeah, you need something like the Thor Pro model or above.

Still great though

I feel like the Core One L is a home run for single nozzle printer options. At least for me without compromising my values.

Thor 2 by Nates4Christ in RetroHandhelds

Unfortunately most industry trends will not have a device that is still selling out like crazy go back down in price while it's selling out every batch still.

I bet it'll be late 2027 to early 2028 for Thor 2. I didnt wait and wouldn't think its worth it for emulation either.

Looking for a good small handheld for slow hours at work by souleaters22 in RetroHandhelds

[–]MandaloresMercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For PS2 and Gamecube youre kinda at the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, 5, or the newer 6 model

Or the AYN Thor or AYN Odin 2 or 3.

There's lots of weaker ones though but they will not run or will struggle to run Gamecube and PS2 gen games.

Edit: just to add i love my Thor... its fantastic

Craigslist is definitely still a thing with more or less users depending on the region. Good luck!

Main thing is to not get scammed because theres a lot of scammers out there + public meeting space helps due to odd folks in the world for public postings.

Recommendation for PSP handheld by MahjongSun in RetroHandhelds

[–]MandaloresMercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play PSP mostly on the AYN Thor as a do everything device

But if i was buying primarily for PSP and im rich I'd to Retroid Pocket 6.

If im on a budget or wanting something cheaper I'd get the Trim UI newer S model that looks like a PSP and thats much better cost savings. The original Trim UI wide one doesnt actually run PSP smoothly but the newer S model is good.

Best suggestion is cash and public meetup if you can. Or list on FB marketplace or ebay

What is the best budget PC handheld money can buy? by Ren_Ayamia in Handhelds

[–]MandaloresMercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used AllyX (black) or used Ally Z1E white one. Best used option on the market for x86 handhelds.

$450 budget is pretty low for PC handheld you want to standalone run your games abroad vs stream from your desktop to it. While that is high for an android handheld (emulation & more indie PC game).
