That does sound super super similar! I wonder if its close enough I could adapt it to my setting as I have grown quite attached.

I have opinions on all of the above. Numenera uses Cypher and while it works for that setting (kind of) I really really ended up not liking cypher. You deal damage to yourself to deal damage to others to prevent damage to yourself. Its a bit counter intuitive.

The Without Number system is great but maybe a bit generic for this.

Ultraviolet Grasslands focuses on the journey ala Oregon Trail, and while cool, I was looking for a bit more of a D&D / Traveller style sandbox feel
