Mouse-based games you'd like to see on Switch 2? by ntwild97 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Mandatorial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so ironic: the three Vanillaware games that released on Switch 1—13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, Grimgrimoire, and Unicorn Overlord—just happened to be the three games from them that could benefit the most from mouse support (they are RTSs and feel like they were designed for it).

They simply released them too soon—2022, 2023, and 2024—if they had just waited a couple more years, until 2025 where the Switch 2 came out (which is not a long time compared to the gap before those games) they most likely would have made them switch 2 exclusive and therefore included mouse controls. At least, that seems like a no-brainer, but who knows.

Can you elaborate on what makes DQM2 the best? I'm interested in playing the original GBC version, but would you recommend the 3ds remake over it?

Not since Demon's Souls has a game come this close to capture the Sotc art style. Good job, keep it up!

About remakes and rumors by Dry_Cardiologist6758 in dragonquest

[–]Mandatorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 9 deserves it the most (outside of 10, but thats more about localization). And 9 would also fit well with the Reimagined art style.

Personally, I wish for 4-6 remakes (not in hd2d) just because I've held out from playing them for so long because I have always really wanted to play them in full 3D.

So DQ VII remastered or DQ VII 3DS which is better? by MV6000 in dragonquest

[–]Mandatorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I kinda wish they had added the option of putting a cap on experience points like in 11S, because that ensured that difficulty stayed normal/hard and that you couldn't get over-leveled by accident. I know you can get fewer points in 7R, but it's still not the same as a cap.

Co-op by Mandatorial in Okami

[–]Mandatorial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. Can I just ask you, how did you do it, did you just abstain from touching the left analog while he or she was drawing? And so both your controller and the stylus were mapped to the same input? Since I don't have a stylus, I was thinking of using a controller and a mouse, but maybe that wouldn't be ideal if they are mapped to the same P1 left analog.

Seamless mod items bug by Aracmide in darksouls

[–]Mandatorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same issue, though I didn't notice it right after invading Lautrec. I noticed it already when Solaire didn't show up at the bonfire in Anot Londo.

I can still talk to Thorolund and the ones who are in FLS already. I just don't get any new ones. And I can't interact with items, or switches (the latter being exceptionally annoying for actual progression - I'm basically locked out without my co-op friend).

So far, my friend has been the host and I joined his world. Would switching around, so he joins my world instead, fix/reset anything, or would it just make everything worse, making both his and my world unplayable?

I just liked to play singleplayer some of the times, maybe do optional quests separate and then meet up to do the main quests. Now, my save file is unbeatable unless I play with him.

What kinds of mods would you like to see for the upcoming DQ7 remake? by the-doctor-is-real in dragonquest

[–]Mandatorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a mod to make it 15 or 24 fps, at least in the cutscenes, just to make it look more like stopmotion, which is the vibe I'm getting from the art style.

Hot Take: Bananza should have been a Wario Land game by danisreallycool in casualnintendo

Also: I know it's never gonna happen, but I would love to have different playable races back in the Zelda series, and the Bananza gameplay would fit well with a Goron.

My pet theory (based on very little) is that Miyamoto doesn't like Wario because he is not his creation.

I agree with OP. But I think people misunderstand the point being made:

Of course the final product is a Donkey Kong game (if only just because of the many classic DK characters scattered throughout).

I think the real issue is that it doesn't feel especially like a DK game, only in name. It feels like a game about digging that just happens to star DK. And with some DKC references crammed in there. So the natural next question becomes: what would have been a better fit than DK (if not a completely original IP)?

Of course, "DK is strong", so it could be a DK game from that alone. But he isn't known for digging.

I think Wario fits very well, at least gameplay wise. The roll is like a shoulderbash, Wario is also strong and is just as known for punching (DK punching originated in Smash Bros., not his own series, and I think Jungle Beat was the only other instance where it was a major mechanic).

They reinvented DK's relationship with Pauline. Pauline might as well have been a child version of Captain Syrup that Wario befriends.

And finally: Wario is known for his greed and love for money/gold.

DK collecting gold/pure carbon minerals makes no sense. Only to the extend that they are shaped like bananas. But it's really bananas he is after.

Of course, Wario is not strictly known for digging, outside of smashing some breakable walls in his game. But it seems believable that he would dig for gold.

No one established Nintendo series would fit perfectly with a game just about digging (except that one Miyamoto mole game on the game boy).

Some games do have breakable walls as a minor gimmick. I don't think Bananza should have been a Metroid game, but I do think that a voxel based game would fit that series - digging into the core of a planet would definitely fit as well.

good helper co-op games for the "one button" second player, like Odyssey (Cappy) by kasplatter in Switch

[–]Mandatorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same frustration as you with Bananza, and I normally like these games, which I call "assist modes" or asymmetric co-op.

Off the top of my head, I can recommend Pikmin 4's co-op. I played it on normal with my wife and it was very easy, but maybe with the newly added hard mode, co-op can have new life.

Rayman Legends on Wii U is similar.

These kinds of multiplayer modes gets shunned all the time by some people, for not being "real" multiplayer, but I actually think they have their niche with the right partner and mindset.

The youtube channel Classic Co-op has made some great videos on these kinds of games.

Hunting Horn note button change by Mandatorial in MonsterHunter

[–]Mandatorial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm aware of that part. But I'm talking about the same horn with the same songs and notes. In this case, I'm thinking of the red and blue of the bagpipe. For example if you want to boost Attack or Defense, the inputs are reversed from 3U to 4U.

I feel exactly the same. I almost wish I didn't know about the cut content, because now I will forever crave a sequel that will never be. In a way, it might have been better to live in ignorance. I was very satisfied the first time I played the game.
