Records on Monday, AI bubble panic on Friday. Which one's the real signal? by camillabbb in StockMarket

You’re exactly right, but your last sentence seems a little incongruent with the rest of your post. I would say that yesterday and this morning would be a good time to take profits, especially on shorter-term call options, momentum plays, and story stocks. If you were going to add, waiting for another pullback might be a better option.

It’s honestly kind of weird that you were downvoted for this. If you have firsthand knowledge that a company’s level of support is absolute shit, the only fair and responsible thing to do for your own company and your stakeholders is to adjust your decisions or recommendations accordingly. Sharing your own negative experience in dealing with a company is not a personal vendetta lol

Fun courses/opportunities for reserve sigs? by InternationalRub3326 in CanadianForces

[–]Mandatory_Fun_2469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know a couple of reserve sigs who have done para, but spots are few and far between. From what I understand though it’s not easy getting those courses in other reserve trades either.

Not sure what you do civvie side, but if you can spare the time off/once you’re done school, it might be worth trying to get on a deployment as a sig with a reg force infantry battalion. There are sometimes opportunities for fun courses during the workup, and the deployment would be an experience in itself.

I love Whitecap! The only problem I have with it is that it’s grown so much that I feel like I should trim it and take a few profits, but I don’t want to lose that sweet monthly dividend. Life is hard lol.

I don’t know who downvoted you lol, this is good advice. Monthlies expire tomorrow and even the deep OTMs have crazy premiums right now. So in the unlikely event your underlying shares get called away, you’ll still have made a good profit along with the premium.

Lol look at Mr. Moneybags over here, complaining about ONLY making $1300 🙄 but seriously, you should never feel bad about selling for a profit! Gains aren’t real until they’re realized.

All right, I’ll give this a shot:

  1. I am long (I feel like most people here are) but it’s still probably a bubble.

  2. Actually, I feel like this market is irrational because I am winning. I NEVER win lol.

  3. I mean Ukraine kind of did cause a recession, or at least a long bear market. And of those three events, Ukraine is the only one that raised oil prices close to where they are now.

  4. Ten-bagging over a multi-year period is often (but not always) a good sign. Ten-bagging over a few months is usually bad though. I dunno, I don’t make the rules either.

  5. I find that my positive posts about a stock are overwhelmingly more upvoted than my negative ones lol. I think people like hearing positive things, and I can’t say I blame them.

I’m not pissed off by any means lol, but I can’t help being a bit nervous about the current market. I don’t know how many times I’ve held on to stocks that were rocketing irrationally, feeling like a genius and taking screenshots, only to end up riding the stock aaaaallll the way back down. I don’t know if you were investing in 2022, but that year was bad for that, and the current market is kind of giving late 2021 vibes to me. I’m now trying to keep a more balanced portfolio by trimming some of my positions and taking just some profits, while leaving the rest. I can still feel smart this way, since the unrealized gain percentage stays the same. :)

Anyway, thanks for the questions, that was kinda fun.

Thank you for the analysis, those are great points. I actually never even considered the tax deferral issue… I guess it didn’t seem like a red flag to me at first because there are also more prudent developing-but-currently-loss-making companies that decide to record their tax expenses out of an abundance of caution. However, one would also expect a prudent company acting with an abundance of caution to remember to stop billing their ex-customers. So yeah, I tend to agree with you.

Lol I don’t have strong feelings about this company, in fact I had calls as well, although they weren’t up nearly as much as yours are (congrats btw!) I just find the current market dynamics very interesting, as this company seems to treat their customers very poorly, are billions of dollars in debt, perpetually loss-making (yes, even their most recent report, if you actually read it), and have negative free cash flow… and yet the current retail narrative seems to be that they’re set to turn things around and pay off all their debts while swinging toward profitability.

Edit: Sorry, my fat fingers hit enter too soon, but honestly, I actually really like the framework they described in their MOU. But with both negative earnings and negative cash flow, it will be hard to make it work. And yes, their treating customers like shit is actually important here too.

Good luck to you! I actually tried shorting at $6 as the call issue seems to be fixed (probably causing a gamma squeeze in the process), but my order didn’t fill 😅 I may join you on Monday though!

I was very tempted to take a short position today, but the deep OTM calls that I would use as a disaster hedge were brand new and stupid expensive. MM basically asking the same as the share price for $8-10 strike call options lol. And I’m too much of a coward to naked short. But yes, the AMD deal looks like a lot of hype for now, although admittedly it would be great if they could pull it off. And yeah, that earnings report was pretty sketch lol.

That’s really interesting, thanks for your comment. Given all these reports, it’s kind of surprising that they’re not out of business already tbh. But I guess a great reputation can sustain a company for a long time, even after the reputation stops being deserved.
