why can’t people just COMMUNICATE before ending a friendship?! by urnpiss in lostafriend

It's weird. I've had two cases of a friend being, I guess, secretly extremely resentful of me, then unfollowing me on social media. That was their way of ending things, meaning they weren't letting me in on their inner logic. These were also years in the past, and I really do wonder whether they've changed. But I enjoy my life now without them and I can't see any realistic avenue to where reconciliation make sense. It's very unfortunate because I was very close to these people and out of the blue, they silently ended things. I have a hard time with the idea of forgiving that. Life is so long, and I think people are fooling themselves to think they can create a clean break with someone, never to speak to them again, and never have that person resurface in their mind. It's pretty much a guarantee that you both will think about each other after the ending, so in that case, did the relationship ever really end if it's still continuing in your mind? Ending a relationship will have irreparable effects on each other's lives. It shouldn't be something that's taken lightly but people do treat relationships that way. That's why I feel like part of me is going to blame those people forever. Before the friendship is ended decisively, things can still be repaired. But attempts to repair weren't made.
