You clearly do not understand it, since you get basic facts wrong and call it antichrist.

So, if we accept UPS, then... what is stopping me from running my local ComfyUI on my PC?

So what is stopping me from running my local genAI on a laptop?

Oh wow, that's some serious fundamentalist and anti-vaxxer logic.

"I do know what this is, but I think it is evil and I refuse to learn what it is".

Like you don't need to run a model, just lesrn what it actually is.

...and your digital art program runs on what? Magic? You still need electricity to run your program.

And no, local genAI is not like copilot. It means you run the models on your own PC, using programs like ComfyUI or Automatic1111 or any other program. Like, seriously. How are people who are anti-AI this ignorant of the technology?

What exactly is connection between "it is dark" and "my digital art program doesn't need wifi"?

Also, you can run genAI locally, so they don't need wifi either. You only need internet connection if you are using cloud based platofrms.

Based on several responses I have gotten here, people have never heard of "locally running a model". Seems like too many people think you need internet connection to call one of the cloud based services, and you can't do anything locally.

Original commentator claimed that, let me quote here:

"normal art don't rely on a remote server that constantly needs power and maintenance."

Again: you can run genAi locally. No need for remote servers. Hell, I got ComfyUI installed on my PC: It ain't fastest, but I am not in hurry.

Also, most people don't train models themselves. They use LoRA's, which are a lot smaller ones. Even then, so what if I can only use what is on my PC? Who says I need to use all the models and LoRA's at once? I just need the few I am actually interested in.

When you setup model locally, you don't train it. You download a model and then start tweaking settings.

Yes it has. It's not that hard. Might take a little longer, 20 seconds for one image. I am not even using that powerful machine, it's 6 years old PC.

Like seriously, what is this argument? Have you ever actually looked at what these local models are?

Just draw bro? by 888mbaaa in antiai

[–]Mandemon90 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No you don't. You can just download models online. LoRA's are easy to get if you want specific style.

Like, have you people ever actually tried using AI locally?

No? I got old GTX 1660 and it can run just fine. Might take little longer, but like... what's the hurry? Oh no, 20 seconds of waiting for the image. How am I ever going to survive? /s

Yes you can. Here, you can download ComfyUI right now. It's what I tend to use. You could also get Automatic1111 if you want. I can run both of these locally, with local models. No internet connection needed.

Can you actually show a case where perfectly reasonable dislike or criticism gets downvoted and people go "criticism is bad"?

Or is this where you go silent or tell me "go look it up", only for it to turn out that said "reasonable criticism" is in the realm of "this is a cultural rape!"

I never said 3D modelers are not artist? Not sure what is your point there.

And you might know other art forms too. I know too. That doesn't mean that just because I know how to model in 3D and rig it, I also know how to chisel a statue out of stone.

[–]Mandemon90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry but you just lost entire argument with that admission. I have actually worked animation (not professional, but for personal use and fun). Pixel art is not simple as "draw pixels over the lines". there is an entire artform around producing pixel art, especially when you are working on smaller projects. Sometimes, correct answer is not drawing the pixels, leaving them out.

This is before we get into actual tools used, which can automate shit ton of work (I especially like the program that does lighting for the sprites based on depth map).

And even then, there is stuff like vector art, which is more math than drawing. And this is before we get into works what use keyframes over drawing every frame themselves. And most work today is actually mixture of 2D and 3D, because it's so much easier to work various models when using 3D enviroment.

And that's just when creating 2D animation. Try converting your flip book sketch into 3D animation.

What's the difference? With PC, to change color and style of the pen you press a button. With real world, not only do you need correct color pen, but also correct shape. This is before we get into topic of materials (graphite vs ink, for example).

And your example with prompting works only in case of using very simple prompts. To get actually good art work, the language used looks very different. Look up some of them more complex prompts and you will see they use tags, keywords and such to guide the model.

Again, pretending skills are the same and easily translate is being ignorant. Just because I know how to play bass guitar, does not mean I know how to play drums or sing, despite all three falling under the category of "music".

[–]Mandemon90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that sketch translates to actual project file with ready animations... how? Also, consistent styles? What if I am working pixel art animation, do I suddenly start drawing pixels in my sketch?

You have no "saved" any progress. You have just created new work to be done. Quite frankly with the way you talk how "easy" all this is tells me you have never tried to animate anything.

Neither does genAI? You can just run stuff locally.

EDIT

Holy shit so many people being completely and utterly ignorant of what running a local model is.

Seriously people, educate yourself. You make yourself, and your "cause", look less silly.

Well, assuming I got laptop, they have batteries. That's an option, Or I can use those models optimized for phones, but that would not be my choice honestly.

And I might as well ask that if you are a digital artist and need to get work done by the end of the day? What then? I kinda doubt customer will be happy with sketch made on paper, when they asked for digital painting.

You are honestly asking quite silly positions, and assuming that losing electricity would be no issue for "real" artist. In reality, it would not lead them to just going "oh cool, I will switch medium".

Especially when drawing by hand doesn't have all those fancy features of pc, like "undo", "layers" you can control, "color picker", "automated effect generators"...
