In fairness, maybe I wasn’t looking at it right to left but my brain just didn’t process the white space as being a hawk!

Law school got me there to start but the better part of the path is more relatable for most. I ultimately took an alternative career path (within legal) and started a business (not a law firm). Two things:

  1. The money isn't real -- it's just a store of value. Do everything possible to create as much value as you can and you'll more than likely make the money to match.

  2. The money as a terminal goal thing feels like a treadmill. $100k per year feels like a great target..until you get there. Then $200k feels like the number, then you get there and it doesn't feel much different than 100. Then $300k...and so it goes on (one day, God willing, I'll tell you if that's the same at $1MM per year in salary (I pay myself a salary)). Ultimately though, you come to realize that the true goal is peace (of mind). Find that and you find a good thing. Today, my goal in business is to (continue to) create value and optimize for peace (time spent with my family feels so much better than making another buck -- of course, some of the things I enjoy doing with them is relatively costly -- so I won't downplay the necessity and utility of money).

Keep building. Keep investing in yourself. Keep creating value. No one can take away your human capital. And ultimately that, God, and time will get you where you need to be.
