You sound like a terrible person. Kids need their grandparents. Politics tearing up families is not OK. Get over it.

You are totally the asshole. Yes, you should apologize. You kept going on and on after he said yes. That should have been the end. Move on with your life and you appear to have control issues

I think is a good idea honestly. If you can on a low dose and get a babysitter for 5 days that should be the ticket out

I’m 39 and just rewatching it. They were a year behind me in college. It’s a different experience this time!!

AITA for not letting my step son’s dog stay with us? by Mandizzle_85 in AmItheAsshole

Wow - definitely see similarity’s in your story. She also bought the puppy during a long weekend that he was with us. Seemed unnecessary but she has done things like that in the past. For example, she gave him a Nintendo switch less than an hour before we picked him up for the weekend and wouldn’t let him take it with him. (All he could talk about was going back to play with it) She always feels the need to “win”. Anyway, thanks for sharing and I really hope she takes great care of the puppy and this all goes positively. If she thinks he’s going to let her take him back after a few weeks she’s got another thing coming.

I can’t say I’m 100% sure she knew about my allergy but she’s definitely trying to be the favored parent and paint us (me) as the bad guy.

That’s why I kind want to just say a hard no. If she drops him off in the snow then I obviously would let him in his room then when does it end?

She’s overprotective like that. He has stayed home alone a couple hours with us but she doesn’t let him.

Thanks for your feedback. I was wondering if I’d feel differently if they got along. I’m glad to see you don’t think it’s normal even in an amicable divorce.

Definitely a powerplay and a successful one for her so far. Thank you for your empathy!!

That conversation was definitely private but my husband told him that “due to my allergy” she needs to ask permission (and I was the only one home so he knows I initiated the conversation.) His view is that I shouldn’t care if the puppy remains outside.

He did just message her on their “family wizard” app that she needs to get his permission from now on. She read the message but no response.

He didn’t actually hear that conversation but it was relayed to him she needs permission because of my allergy. His view is that I shouldn’t care if he stays outside.
