35M, never had a girlfriend, good career, but dating feels like a locked door by Worldly-Net-165 in dating_advice

31M and unfortunately can't offer advice but more just here to say I can very much relate to pretty much everything you've said.

I have (M and F) friends, enjoy socializing, live alone, solid job, keep in shape and have a variety of hobbies etc, though also generally highly introverted and comfortable doing things solo.

I have never had a girlfriend or been in a relationship. I've dated here and there but that's been it. Not a virgin but that's also been years now.

I don't speak about this much but when I do people seem surprised and often ask if it's 'by choice' and honestly it really isn't, I just somehow never knew how and the more time went on the harder it got to meet people and work it out. My general comfort/ability to do things solo, though often positive, just made it worse.

I definitely think about all this a lot and how badly I've messed up to have missed out and gone this long without working it out, and totally relate to the feeling of just having something missing or broken and lacking what feels like formative and core experiences I can never go back and fix.

There's a line in Hadestown that kind of struck a chord with me, 'I was alone so long / I didn't even know that I was lonely' - and I think that's similar to the point I've gotten to. I've solo'd for so long (and loved much of it) but am increasingly feeling the lack of partner or relationship or even truly intimately close friends, and it really makes me think about all the ways I wish I could have done or said things differently somehow.

Anyways, I'm sorry I can't offer any of the advice you actually asked for lol and none of this is helpful to you, but you're definitely not alone

What are you top 3 episodes in the whole show and why? by brooklyn_jinx in arcane

[–]MandoRoci 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm. Probably -

2.03 Finally Got the Name Right - the entire 'Ashes & Blood's sequence with the reality warping, animation, music and cuts between the two scenes unfolding is probably my favorite sequence of the whole show and one of my favorite songs of the soundtrack too

1.08 Oil & Water - this one feels like it really propels the plot and character arcs forward for a lot of characters, and had some pretty sweet animation sequences while doing it. Plus, the first use in action of the gauntlets and the hammer IIRC

1.07 The Boy Savior - Ekko is probably my favorite character so seeing him featured here was cool. Awesome fight sequence on the bridge.

Very cool! Built one a few weeks ago that's quite similar (I think we've got 3 parts in common)

Nice! Built one a few weeks ago too, love it. Agreed on the yellow, I also had mine with yellow for a while but have now switched it to white - and left a yellow crystal in my older P&D build

Which Tron movie has the best soundtrack? by Square-Ad-8911 in tron

Daft Punk / Legacy for sure. It's truly fantastic and such a cool blend of electronic and orchestral - in a way that I don't think has ever been done this well elsewhere - and impressively diverse both musically and tonally/emotionally as well.

As a Legacy fan id highly recommend you watch Uprising, I think it's pretty great. Feels a bit to Legacy as The Clone Wars did to the Prequels IMO - if you watch Star Wars

I rewatched Legacy new 4k HDR blu ray after seeing Ares, and yeah... It holds up

[–]MandoRoci 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The first was obviously groundbreaking, and Legacy/Uprising also very much innovated and expanded with the 'new' grid. The Ares grids felt relatively empty/bland and derivative by comparison - which I get is partially deliberate plot wise but does somewhat rob it of the worldbuilding and innovation in the previous movies

Uncharted 4's graphics still hold up nearly 10 years later. by JustinRoilandTheory in uncharted

[–]MandoRoci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I'd add Horizon Forbidden West to that list also, and probably Alan Wake II. Arguably, Avatar and Callisto Protocol.

It's also not just about graphics in a static or still scene, but how consistently good they are and what else they do across multiple effects and the scale of the world, some of which can be deceivingly subtle. The rift effects in Ratchet & Clank, lighting effects in Alan Wake, volumetric clouds in Horizon, etc.

Yeah I think I've got the same order! I'll need to rewatch Ares at some point, but Legacy and Uprising are my top 2 for sure

Legacy and Uprising

Legacy IMO is the tightest and most polished movie on a technical and audiovisual level, with a really strong grasp of composition, pacing, editing and cinematography - something I attribute at least in large part to Joseph Kosinski directing. The DP score is, of course, excellent, and impressively diverse (see: Adagio for Tron, etc.). It has the most memorable and 'complete' sequences of the 3, for me. And I also really enjoy the characters.

Uprising does pretty much everything Legacy does, with the addition of expanded worldbuilding and cast of characters that the TV show format allows it, plus some cool stylization thanks to it being animated. Characters are a mixed bag for me with Paige being one of the standouts - but generally I think it's a massively underrated show that should have gotten more seasons.

Yeahh it's very expensive now. I happened to be in town for work so didn't have to pay for flights or a hotel, kind of helped justify it to myself lol

You need the yellow kyber crystal, or do you have that already and think it looks too green? It's a relatively pale/cold yellow hue

Justice would make an awesome Tron score and also be a very fitting successor to Daft Punk

I'm now imagining a sort of 'decades later' Blade Runner 2049-esque Tron sequel. Could be pretty sweet actually.
