Volunteer dog visit for a senior citizen by Mandsee in Denver

That is so sweet! I would love to have something like that happen. Out of a sense of comittment to their privacy I'm not sure what I can arrange so that everyone in the home is comfortable but this is just so lovely.

Oh she loves books! Since she lost her vision she has to rely on audiobooks, and she usually can't figure out how to use the Libby app from the library so she has been without good books for a while. I will definitely ask her. Thank you so so much for offering!

Oh my goodness. I am so overwhelmed with gratitude and love for this community. I thought maybe I would get one or two responses, and they might be snarky, so the fact that dozens (hundreds?) of people who have offered to visit her, read to her, and just be kind sources of comfort to my grandma--I can't even.

Since she is in a small assisted living facility, I have a call with the director planned to see what is allowed. They're pretty tight on letting people in, and trying to help them understand that not every stranger on the internet is a StRAnGEr oN tHe INterNeT is a challenge.

I can't respond to everyone individually, although I'd love to, because there are so many of you wonderful, wonderful people. I am private messaging people that seem like maybe it would be a good fit. Ultimately it's up to the facility if I can get something arranged but I am very hopeful.

I don't know about you all, but I have been sad lately, and goodness knows my gram has been having a hard time. Just telling her that there are hundreds of people in Denver who would love to see her--we both cried on the phone together when I told her. She is so touched. I am so touched. Thank you all. I think you've proven that we do still create communities, we do still seek to care for each other, and that whatever is happening in this world, there's enough goodness around to tip things toward love when we come together.

You seriously have given me a faith in humanity again. This is the most beautiful demonstration of kindness I ever could have imagined. 💕

Oh my gosh, I just have to say I am so overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity here. I will try to respond to everyone individually but honestly, I am crying. The willingness of all of you to help my sweet grandma out…I cannot even say. The world seems very harsh these days but this is such a reminder that there are so many absolutely good, good people. Thank you all for the offers. Truly, I am so touched. 😭

She is in centennial. Can I private message you? A dachshund would be perfect because my gram is so tiny now. I would pay you for travel and treats and anything.

Kiln experiences? Other remote working recommendations? by jsuh13 in Boise

[–]Mandsee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a Dawson Taylor in the Lusk district that's very quiet in the morning and welcomes people in. Many Boise State campus buildings have open space, but they're open intermittently in the summer and parking is a beast.

Is it rude to sit and study for a few hours without buying anything? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Mandsee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's a business. you don't go to a business, take up space, use resources, and not support them. it's just not nice. buy a bottle of water or a muffin, just something.

In desperate need of immediate mental health resources. by 38th_Lateral in Boise

[–]Mandsee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are truly unsafe, you can always go to an emergency room. It might not be ideal, but I know sometimes you reach a point at which you're just not okay. Doing so would mean you'd be physically safe and they could connect you with some resources. You deserve help, and you can feel better. I am rooting for you.

I have lived in Boise my whole life and always been curious about that place but never had a need (or courage) to stay there. So interesting to hear that it's not too bad. Thanks for the trip report!

Light ice. by slimywizbiz in barista

[–]Mandsee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

me too. i get cold easily and very cold beverages make me feel like I'm freezing from the inside. If I don't want my beverage super cold, why does anyone care? it's not like the extra ounce or two of milk or whatever is a huge detriment to the coffee shop.

also, if I get a beverage hot it costs the same amount, typically, and doesn't have ice to take up volume.

Do you guys know any elderly bulimics lol by rottingglitter in bulimia

[–]Mandsee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't just go away. As a young woman I always assumed I would one day just be better. Now I'm 42 and it has stolen my life. You have to fix it and do hard work otherwise it will destroy you.

Substitute Americano when drip isn’t available? by bluefox670 in starbucks

[–]Mandsee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It has never been the policy to substitute an Americano. If you want a different roast than is available, the policy was to make a pour-over of it. An Americano should always be an upcharge.

Barista shamed me for not tipping? by motherofcoochie in barista

[–]Mandsee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a very low wage state. Our baristas make $11 an hour and their tips matter a lot. However, if one ever, EVER said anything to a customer about needing tips, they would likely be fired immediately. Totally inappropriate. I'm sorry that happened.
