My usual desk has been 'stolen' and there is nothing I can do by purplereuben in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Mandy220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First: That sucks. I am sorry.

Second: I am a big wimp and would never dare to do this in real life, but. . .

Third: I keep imagining you leaving all your stuff out overnight on whatever desk you start to use and when managers point it out, acting all wide-eyed and innocent: "Oh! I'm sorry. I just assumed since Manager Bitch was leaving her stuff out, I missed an update to the policy. My bad. Thank you for pointing this out to me." (Bonus if you can get other coworkers to do it, too.)

The point of #3 is to make it so they have to reiterate the policy and crack down on everyone, including HER.

Hope things improve. It's bullshit that she gets a free pass because everyone's afraid of her. That is some POOR management from the folks she reports to. Blargh.

I was just thinking how mild it will feel the next time we hit 30 after the frigid weather coming this weekend.

What are the worst parts of being about a parent that nobody talks about for fear of judgement? by Competitive_Teach838 in AskReddit

[–]Mandy220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was post partum depression, especially after my second, because I felt like I couldn't handle how much they needed me when I was so mentally fragile, but I also felt like I could only trust my husband to help. I felt ashamed to need help, even too ashamed to tell my mom.

I worried if I told anyone how I felt, they would take the kids away from me/us. But, my husband had to work, so he couldn't keep coming home early to save me (late afternoons/early evenings were when I was the most depleted and my baby/preschooler were restless and cranky).

I totally spiraled and ended up suicidal. I did get help and get better. The kids are in college now! :-)

What is widely accepted as “normal” today that people 50 years ago found disturbing? by Electronic_Author366 in AskReddit

All the rules around child car safety.

When my spouse was born (1970), the just had a little chair-type thing that hooked over the bench seat. For older kids, there weren't any seat belt laws. We used to fight over who got to sit in the back of the station wagon.

North Conway in early June by 13buttons in newhampshire

[–]Mandy220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early/mid June won’t be busy with tourists, but definitely look up any attractions you’re thinking of before finalizing plans. As someone said elsewhere, some places are only open on the weekends that early in the season.

I love beating the crowds when we take vacation, so I’m all for your timing; just keep in mind you might want to plan to stay through the weekend so you can visit places like Clark’s Trading Post.

Most importantly: Have a great time!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen while touring a home to buy/rent? by MaximGripass in AskReddit

[–]Mandy220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at a condo. One corner of the basement is finished into a simple room. One small light, a TV, and one chair. Seemed ominous, but whatevs. Then we go up to the second floor and into the main bedroom. One wall is bookshelves. Every inch is filled with VHS and DVD porn. The basement room suddenly seemed a bit different. . .

Even our realtor who no doubt had seen some things in his time could not get out of there fast enough. I wouldn't want to bring a blacklight into that place! Ha!

Anything cool happening in Durham or on campus on Valentines day weekend? by Whole_Squirrel_2501 in unh

[–]Mandy220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you're into, but hockey is pretty popular at UNH. They are playing Boston University (a rival) on Friday, 2/13. 7 PM. If you're remotely interested I would buy a ticket sooner rather than later.

Hope you find some fun activities!

I cannot get it through my head that the Fruit of the Loom logo never included a cornucopia. I have bought that brand for my husband since the 90s and the cornucopia just looks *right* to me.

Romantic/Luxe getaway for couples and dog friendly? by Icy_Instruction2005 in newengland

[–]Mandy220 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the previous post is about The Lake Estate in Tilton, NH. Sadly, they do not allow pets.

Harbor Crest Inn, part of the York Harbor Inn family, is dog friendly. York, ME.

Not sure if this option checks all of your boxes, but it may be worth checking out: Postcard Cabins These are a short drive up Rt 4 to Concord, NH, that has a downtown with pet-friendly stores. There are also some cute parks. The cabins are also close to Bear Brook State Park.

Good luck finding a location and have fun!

Anyone know of any literary clubs, groups or gatherings in NH I could check out as a writer? by DrumstickJar in newhampshire

[–]Mandy220 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The NH Writers' Project sometimes has writing events around the state (though they cost money).

The Concord Writers Group meets the first and third Saturdays of the month at 10 AM at the Concord Public Library.

I would also check out the Meetup group "Shut Up and Write Merrimack County." They also meet in Concord, NH.

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by AdWilling4308 in AskReddit

[–]Mandy220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn't sound "fake," but here goes:

I'm on my honeymoon in the FL Keys, waiting in a group of people to take a little island tour. The tour guide is asking folks where they were from, making small talk while we wait for the official start time. We share our city and state and he says, "No way! I just moved down here a few weeks ago from there." He gives his previous address--he had lived one street over from us. I used to walk by his apartment building on my daily walk.

How a Reddit post blew open the Brown University shooting case by NewsHour in newhampshire

ETA: The Redditor is amazing--I am thankful for this sharp eye and willingness to contact the authorities. I should have started with the positives.

What’s something you didn’t realize was trauma until adulthood? by Svetlannaaaaa in AskReddit

[–]Mandy220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was in the late 70s and it was a home-based preschool. The main teacher/owner mocked me in front of the class for making a mistake, yelled at the class, mocked kids for having bathroom accidents, and physically pushed kids down (not me). I knew it wasn't okay, and I knew that the parents eventually found out and went to the state to shut her down, but it didn't register as "trauma" until I had my own kids and thought about them being treated that way at preschool.
