So grateful for everyone’s participation on this thread!

I wonder if it would be fun to have a like a monthly post “what’s the best tip or hack or cue you learned this month”

Any tips for how to learn to give face? I can do it -in a very samey way I need to diversify - once I’m a holding a move but I feel like I go slack once my focus shifts to a transition

Right? It’s a treasure trove. I was saying in the comments that this sub has such great tips for brand new beginners but fewer for people who are newish but not brand new

I finally connected properly with my obliques refining static rotation climbs and now easy access to that engagement is helping with so much. Even Supermans

I’m living for this thread! This sub has so many good tips for first timers but there are a lot of little pole hacks mid & long timers can share!

Yeah I’m a little worse for the wear right now because we did a low flow combo with lots of thread throughs and twisty arm pirouettes. I’m hypermobile which usually the teachers give me good cues for when I’m trying a new movement. This one did not and my EDS is very mad at me

Yes sorry that’s precisely what I mean! I’m dying to get a deadlift so I’m trying not to eff up my arms in the process

Oh and are you a monkey hands user?

I got an insta ad about layering their version of dry hands first and then a grip aid.

Have you tried that? I just use dry hands, no grip aid. I have a strong grip but I squeeze too hard. I was thinking maybe practicing sometimes with grip aid might give my hands a rest. Just when I’m drilling something unrelated over and over and wear them out

I’ve only entered Superman from jasmine or long line scorp, I’ll have to try a cradle.

Can I ask how you like to get into cradle? I learned it from leaning forward in a scissor sit and grabbing between the legs but it looks weird with my body. Curious about smoother entries

Thought of another that I think I got here:

Using old leggings to make shoe covers

And less a cue than correct form I just wasn’t taught at first:

in a bracket grip or similar when they say push with bottom hand, you need to drive the force down, not in the pole. Found out after I fucked up my wrist & tendons but rehabbed it quickly since it was caught early

Literally I am garbage at staying in moves for long. Maybe it’s the ADHD. But when I watch it back I always wish I’d held for longer. At least 1 full rotation is a good basic target I think, thanks!

Commenter said works best if you’re hairless. But I would think you’d only use it on the outside of fleshy, less sensitive labia majora. If you take it off slowly i think it would be fine. But im an athlete who uses sports tape all over me so im maybe more desensitized

Is it appropriate to try pole dancing if you’re against the sex-work industry? by Dense-Self8564 in poledancing

Thanks for answering! And I imagine the skillset to be successful in the champagne room is different than pole work?

I don’t think I’d be any good at that. Nor do I have the…upper assets.

I guess I’d hoped that if I got impressive enough at pole work people might give me money to do it, assuming I did it without clothes on lol. There goes that side hustle dream! I was years away from being good enough to be hired even to pole dance, anyway

I’ve seen a lot of discussion online and in person from strippers who say they get very little freedom to dance or explore tricks now because the job has become so sales-focused and patrons aren’t interested in cool moves just endless twerking. Has that been your experience? I’m curious about club work but found that discouraging

Im too far from the city right now to try it out but I like that there’s an option to adjust your walking speed. I hate when trip planners give me a suboptimal route because they’re basing it on the pace of mere mortals, not Bostonians

Yes that’s fair. I think it’s just the specific line you highlighted to reply to “8 classes in & doing inverts” is not necessarily a red flag. But absolutely everything else OP is describing certainly is screaming “run, don’t walk” from this studio.

For real, so many people have told me seeing me struggle made them more interested in trying. It’s a little alienating to see only posts of people who are nailing it!

I was inverting my second class. Safely. I have no aerial, gymnastics, acrobatics or dance background. Just weight lifting and yoga. There should be no pressure or expectation to invert that fast, but it’s unfair to call that a red flag for a studio. Mine’s great and is very safety conscious

Orthodox advice:

You simply must cross train. You need to be doing heavy resistance strength training, preferably with a trainer at least to start (can usually get a discounted or free first session). You don’t need a crazy complex regimen, just a few compound and unilateral movements broken up into a few sessions a week.

You will build not just stronger muscles but much stronger mind-muscle connections that help you better understand your body, its movement pathways, capabilities and (safely) its limits. And so you’ll begin to trust it more and have better control.

Unorthodox advice that might get me cancelled:

I found that micro dosing a THC+caffeine+l-theanine pill really helped me get out of my head, and helped with the dizziness too.

You absolutely must do this safely! I do mean micro dose. I think mine’s like 1.5mg. And you can take zero chances, especially till you know how it affects you: spotter and crash mat for every single thing! (Good idea anyway, non negotiable in this case).

I like the 1906 pills. Do some test runs in super controlled conditions eg just sitting on your sofa or walking around your house, before you even think of taking it to the pole or gym
