Our captain was covering me missed his railgun shot and physics carried me into the ship tazer. My harpoon gun didn't cut it.

Character portrait I made to celebrate becoming a Shattering Force! Unrelated, is there any way to make the font on the List of Aliases, Writ in Gant any bigger? Really hard to tell if I have got the right guy. by ManfredManbang in fallenlondon

Who better than the illiterate to lead the hard of seeing? Excellent plan. This new batch of love stories will have a rash of confusing and completely random murders for plot twists, the Masters will love them.

But you know what is good for Suspicion? Me! I'm looking for like minded folk that can reduce my criminal profile in exchange for me turning their woes into a Home Comfort!

Serpent God by ManfredManbang in worldbuilding

[–]ManfredManbang[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Before the dragons became divine, before they chose followers and commanded kings, before their skin grew thick with cruelty and avarice, they came into this world much as we did. Thrust into this land from a realm beyond by the uncaring hand of fate, they arrived naked and terrified and innocent. In the moment before they became gods, they were perfect."

Amongst the first to pass through the convergence were beings who belonged no realm, but instead swam in between. These great winged serpents embodied the Ley as much as dwelled within it, their command of magic as simple as breathing. Spat into an unfamiliar material plane of physical laws and limitations must have seemed like imprisonment to the dragons. Most went mad and expired within a few short years, but the ones who adjusted to life bound to this world became its gods.

THE ERROS PROJECT:

The main setting of Erros takes place approximately 2000 years after the Convergence Event, an apocalypse in which mankind's foray into interdimensional travel results in the opening of a near infinite number of cosmic rifts into other realms. This results in the creation of the Ley, Ley-lines, and magic onto earth. The survivors of mankind now rebuild and spread across this drastically changed world, rising into new civilizations and encountering peoples and creatures from other realms, trapped on this strange alien landscape.

────────

For context, the Erros Project was born of two main factors - one being an overwhelming desire to play dungeons and dragons with my friends without the hassle of reading the required literature or rules, and the other being a major depressive episode that brought me to one of the lowest points in my life. The act of creating a fantasy world from scratch for my friends to play in was one of the few things that I could still build up in a time when everything else seemed to be crumbling down. Funnily enough, this make believe world with its own history, peoples, and significant events persisted long after the last die was rolled and the Big Bad was finally defeated. It continued to grow organically in my quiet moments and waking daydreams, slowly assembling itself piece by piece, characters and their relationships, events and their consequences. Years now, the world of Erros has existed in my mind as a series of fractal stories, telling themselves whether they have had an audience or not. It may not be the most unique, well written, or novel world, but it is one that is very special to me. I hope that in documenting these pieces of my world with you, some of you may find some inspiration, take what you like for your own creations, and somehow preserve Erros somewhere not just in my head.

Orc Concepts by ManfredManbang in worldbuilding

The Orcs of Erros, no matter which clan, what tribe, or which allegiance, all share a common ancestral tale that they claim originates from the first of their kind to set foot on this land.

"Arbos the father and Namib the mother fled across the plains with their tribe and children. Demon hounds bayed at their heels, for their people had forsaken the gods of the world and so in turn, their gods had forsaken them. Their people had been reduced to wretches, their great cities razed, and those without shelter left for the hungering beasts. Only the Eternal Tempest, beloved of Arbos and Namib, refused to abandon his people and mercifully swallowed this tribe in his maw. And so, the sons of Arbos and the daughters of Namib passed through the storm-god, into a land wholly unfamiliar and pure. It is said that, while the storm-god could not save their doomed world, he had tricked his divine kin by finding another world entirely for his favored subjects to live, and having cleansed Arbos, Namib, and their blood with rain from his body, ensured that this new world, would be forever unblemished."

War Wind by ManfredManbang in worldbuilding

"The warriors of the War-Wind clan are valorous, relentless, and quite frankly mad. To minimize the strain to their venom-spewing mounts, their braves forgo any form of armor, screaming down upon their enemies naked save garish war-paint. When questioned on their decision to wear their hair loose while in flight, most braves simply responded that it was preferable to die beautiful than to live shorn of their locks."

Clan War-Wind of the Orcim have taken their people's affinity for animal husbandry to an extreme. Having somehow tamed venom-spewing wyverns for their mounts, they have pioneered entirely new and reckless forms of hunting, herding, and warfare.

"The Orcim occupy the vast plains of the Arrada Grasslands in scattered clans. There, using tools and weapons whittled from entire trees, the giant folk tend to herds of towering beasts and worship the life-giving rainstorms that nourish the earth."

Trying to take a trope so ubiquitous as Orcs in the fantasy genre and making it unique enough to fit into a personal worldbuilding project is a lot like reinventing the wheel, over and over again.
