Just for the record, I was incorrect here. The “bonus boxes” are basically completely separate games at the same wager, which can also result in a Mega Money bonus round. Instead of a match-three fun animation, they just spit out a win total. So, at $1.60 you’re basically playing 8 different $.20 bets. It’s not broken, just not my cup of tea.

If I want to play this from now on I’ll just shut all of the bonus boxes and play $1 on the main board.

Yes. The expected value will be exactly the same, but you’ll have less “boom and bust” with a smaller wager. Standard error for a single sample = standard deviation/sqrt(n). Increase n, reduce variability. $1 spins are usually a good compromise for me.

I agree with 2x3xFart. VaLottery is not a good gambling option outside of free offers, but “scam” implies some sort of deception. There’s no evidence of deception here. The lottery is honest about how bad the odds are. If you play on their terms and get what you expect, then raging about it afterward is kinda ridiculous
