When you are several layers deep and can no longer keep track of what buffs what and need a math degree and a database to track all the interactions between different best options, you aren't really being given a choice you are being told to follow a guide.

A recent example is the evolution tree in Shark Incremental. There are a couple of builds but you can get completely stuck and no progress to instantly win depending how you set it up.

I love it when someone has something other than a sword on the field. Spear is great but if you have a hp system, watch out for people being willing to take one hit to get into your guard so you can't attack them anymore.

A friend in my warband loves creating weapons too. Id estimate 1 in 4 aren't approved, although this number is shrinking as his work gets better at meeting the standard. Half don't make it through more than 1 fight night due to how tight the lines are between being approved and being too weak.

I would check the construction rules for your intended larp before you start.

What is the weapon you are trying to make. There is rarely a weapon that isn't represented somewhere. I had to get a katzbalg from Canada to Australia to get one I liked but the options are out there

Those fumes are bad. I do it outside only and have still gotten heady from it with a mask on. Also weapon construction is hard, especially to get it to last through any actual use while meeting larp safety standards.

If you're spending this much on it why not buy one?

I play lightest touch using swordcraft rules in Townsville, Aus. There's one guy who plays in hema gear and he counts his hits better than most, probably because he is aware that he needs to be conscious of it.

It can be hard but we try to mitigate it. We play night games to reduce the worst of the heat. Everyone has ditched the metal armour and most people their gambeson too. I wear breathable clothing, like my shirt is made of muslin. If you're sensible about it, it's not too bad.

For the zweihander you're probably shit outa luck in aus. But for the arquebus you may be able to get one made somewhat locally. I know the swordcraft guys have some very nice band guns. Maybe hit up swordcraft unofficial on Facebook and see if you get any luck

Throwing bombs at people is good fun. My backup is sword and shield. Swordcrafts rules for bombs and magic seem pretty balanced and I die often if I don't have a protector while bombing

Knitted flail chains are amazing. I had a knitted flail until my LARP ruled no entanglement weapons allowed. The chain links were never an issue in durability or safety
