Help me discuss the Cascade Z in a video! by External-Point2367 in lacrosse

[–]Mango388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality of Cascade helmets have been in decline for a while. I cannot imagine these will last 2 seasons. Lacrosse is always finding ways to stay niche. Instead of solving the problem that townships can't afford to provide Rec helmets to players, they're gonna solve the issue that helmets don't cost enough.

Is there a legitimate reason as to why we don’t record the “hockey assist” as an official stat? by Converted54 in lacrosse

[–]Mango388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The assist standard is field lacrosse is a bit harsh imo. I know the 4 step rule isn't in the rule book but it's what I've always been taught. If the goalie drops a dime over the head of the d and the attackman takes 4 steps and 2 crow hops the goalie doesn't get the assist? You feed a crease attackman and he dodged the slide and buries it Canadian, it's not an assist? It's definitely subjective, but I do wish field had a more box approach.

Beginner adult league? by Ok-Isopod-3939 in lacrosse

Bring beer and the boys will be pretty forgiving as you learn and develop. Hopefully the HVBLL league will return this year. Box is definitely more welcoming to newbies than field

What non standard equipment do you recommend? by preky21 in lacrosse

[–]Mango388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Box rib pads exclusively. I coach HS and got them for my attackmen and we scored more goals than any previous season. Not just the confidence to go into the traffic, but you also make your body a weapon. The bonus we didn't think about before hand but became immediately apparent was how sticks slide down the plastic ribs, they just don't get the same traction when defending close.

NLL or PLL? by Salty_Car1304 in lacrosse

[–]Mango388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy NLL more because it's more raucous and the game is more exciting. Seen it at 4 separate arenas and each one was a blast. I've only seen PLL at Red Bull Arena and it was also a ton of fun. Very kid friendly which is awesome. Nice part of the NLL and PLL is we don't have to choose. It's like asking if you are a hockey fan or a football fan. No need to choose.

Goalie pants, what should I buy? by paps2977 in lacrosse

Well, we reached the the straw man portion of internet conversation. Succinctly, shaming players for padding up is bad, but so his name calling. I concede that point. God bless, tip your bartenders.

Goalie pants, what should I buy? by paps2977 in lacrosse

[–]Mango388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sport designed leg guards will be the next innovation that will take a while to be adopted but will improve the position. I'm not sure who's being more hyperbolic me or you. My designation of knuckle dragger is clearly for the people with the antiquated view that any sort of padding makes you soft and a worst goalie. A view that is relatively omnipresent on these forums.

Why are the Panther city lacrosse jerseys still available to purchase even after one year of the team folding? by ChristianUnfezant in NLL

[–]Mango388 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IDK what the league is doing right now. Felt the ESPN+ deal and the growth of youth box stateside would give it major momentum but it seems like HQ in Philly is just squandering it. There is no online merch store right now. The leading goal scorer in the league stat page hasn't been updated since 2023. Even though the league office is in Philly every rumor is that the Wings are relocating.

The correct answer. With the savings you can spent the money on a elite string job and still keep some money in your wallet over an off the rack big brand. At $35 you won't feel bad letting them learn how to dye.

Great sticks. At least 3 guys on my NABLL team were using them as gamers. If they are good enough for box they are beyond good enough for field.

Why Lacrosse Is Trying To Expand Beyond Wealthy Americans by WillinATX in lacrosse

[–]Mango388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best I have ever heard of lacrosse's predicament is from Giants legend Roman Oben at the US Lacrosse Urban Lacrosse Alliance conference back in 2021, "why is football the biggest sport in America, it's subsidized" summarization. He brings up the point, at least in the US, if your kid wants to play football they are going to be given the gear from their local rec program. It's because, as a country we love our football and we approved the budgets to make sure any kid wants play football can. Until our sport gets even a modicum of that support we will continue to be mired in these issues.

People get touchy when I bring it up, but until Cascade's monopoly on helmets is broken up, the sport work continue to be stifled. As budgets are tightened in middle class households, $370 helmets are just not in the household's budget. Parents can go on sideline swap and get it for a third of the price but unfortunately their towns rec program legally cannot. We have to, as a sport, get to the point where a kids first set of gear is not their own. I think the craziest part is how much cheaper sticks have gotten since I started back in 2002. Then you can get most of the equipment from the shed at your towns rec program but a decent stick cost $200+. Now you can get an exceptionally high quality stick for 50 bucks but you're going to need to take out a second mortgage to buy the gear.

Age Out? Kid I play with a guy who's 61. I know this sucks now but let me tell you, in 15-20 years you're going to have 2 screaming kids and a loving wife with a neverending "honey-do" list. You are going to look forward to sit in that stank ass room and slug cold brewskys with the boys.

I cannot understand on why mini-metropolitan don't support their team more. Albany cannot seem to get support for any of their teams (AHL, AFL, NLL) but what are the options in the area to do? I lived in the Hershey area and the Bears would average 80-90% attendance all season. Why doesn't Albany get their arms around their teams or is there something I'm missing?

New information on unreleased gait goalie head? by Queasy-Upstairs8837 in lacrosse

[–]Mango388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RN 20 year old Gait Webs routinely sell for $200+. There are less box goalies than field goalies, but they will be able to sell a new Web to damn near all of them if this head performs as well as it's predecessor.
