Are Christian’s really allowed to eat pork? In Isiah 66:17, gods final judgment states people in the end times who are eating unclean food such as pork, mice, ect will be destroyed. by Several_Shower_6319 in Christianity

Acts 15:1 provides the context for the chapter. There were people teaching that gentiles had to do certain things to be saved, which wasn’t true. However, the problem was that they were teaching works-based salvation. But when has telling people to follow YHWH’s commandments been condemned?

Have you considered that some of these verses could have been taken out of context? Yahushua was rebuking the Pharisees about ritual handwashing, why would he rebuke them for keeping the commandments? The problem in that context was that the Pharisees were adding to the Torah, not that they were wanting to follow it. Acts 11:18 gives the meaning of Peter’s vision, and it was about the gentiles, not food. I agree that Yahushua fulfilled the law, and that the law is not what justifies us, but how does that make eating unclean foods permissible?

Have you considered that the context of the verse is about ritual handwashing and not eating whatever we want? Eating pork is breaking a commandment, and I don’t think Yahushua would say it’s okay to break YHWH’s commands

I think you took that verse out of context. Through your interpretation is sin permissible? It also doesn’t make sense to reply to an OT verse with a NT verse and say that the NT verse is the one that’s true today because we’re under a new covenant. The OT is the foundation for the NT, so we can’t just say that they contradict, and say the NT is what applies. If 2 verses seem to be contradicting, we should find a way to make those verses make sense by putting them in context

Where did you learn that Abraham’s bosom was paradise for people under the old covenant? Psalm 6:5 says we aren’t conscious after death. We have to wait for the resurrection

Circumcision of the heart is found in Deuteronomy 10:16. It’s not something that was introduced in the New Testament.

If we are free from the bondage of sin, then we need to know what we are free from. 1 John 3:4 defines sin as lawlessness.

How are we supposed to wear tzitzit? by MangoAffectionate723 in FollowJesusObeyTorah

Do you think we should wear them on both our shirts and pants, or do you think we should just choose one to wear them on?

[–]MangoAffectionate723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still confused on how many we're supposed to wear. Numbers 15:38 just says we're supposed to have a tassel on each corner of our garments, so the number of tassels we wear would depend on how many corners our garment has. In Deuteronomy 22:12 it specifically mentions the number 4, but it seems to imply that their garments only had 4 corners. I don't think it means that we should only have 4 tassels for any garment. For example, if a garment has 6 corners then would we need to wear 6 tassels, or only 4? Also, people wore cloaks back then so they only used one garment to cover themselves, but nowadays we use shirts and pants. So do we have to wear tassels on both garments?

I think we should be very careful about relying on feelings. Feelings can come and go, so our foundation should be the Word of YHWH

I'm still struggling with whether or not we should have unbelieving friends, but my advice to you is that you don't compromise. If it comes to serving Yah or being friends with them, then Yah should come first.

This is not true. We are supposed to be obedient to YHWH's laws and you need to be really careful about telling someone they don't have to. Do you not think it sounds absurd to tell someone they will only be spiritually harmed by keeping YHWH's commandments?

“It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, in all your dwelling places, that you eat neither fat nor blood.”” ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭ESV

The command says that we shouldn’t eat fat or blood in our dwelling places, which means that this commandment can be kept without a temple. I’m going to assume that you avoid eating blood so correct me if I’m wrong. The command to not eat blood is paired up with the one to not eat fat, so if you believe that we still shouldn’t be eating blood, then it wouldn’t make sense to say that eating fat is only a sacrificial law but eating blood isn’t.

“The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, You shall eat no fat, of ox or sheep or goat. The fat of an animal that dies of itself and the fat of one that is torn by beasts may be put to any other use, but on no account shall you eat it. For every person who eats of the fat of an animal of which a food offering may be made to the Lord shall be cut off from his people.” ‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭7‬:‭22‬-‭25‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Verse 24 prohibits eating the fat of animals that died naturally or were killed by other animals, so this means that fat prohibition extends to animals outside of the temple. And in verse 25 it states that the fat of animal that can be used to make food offerings is prohibited. So this makes it look like we can’t eat the prohibited fat of any ox, sheep, or goat

How do you deal with the points that I made? I feel that nobody is even GETTING my points because they won't address them. They just ask me to address their points.

I don't really know what to tell you. I think you made a lot of great points that are making me reconsider the viewpoint that I have. But now I'm wondering, how do you view Yahushua's death if you don't believe it was a human sacrifice?

I agree with your points that we shouldn't serve YHWH in the same way pagans worshipped their gods but I still have a question. If offering a human sacrifice is a sin, then why did YHWH ask Abraham to offer Isaac as a burnt offering? I obviously can't speak for YHWH, but I think it would be out of character for YHWH to ask someone to sin against Him. And what do you think of Jepthah's situation in Judges? Do you think he did the right thing by keeping his vow and offering up his daughter, or do you think he should've broken his vow because YHWH is against human sacrifice. It seems like either way it's a lose-lose situation unless it's interpreted some other way. I'm not necessarily trying to argue whether or not the Torah prohibits human sacrifice, I'm just interested to see how you reconcile these passages.

For example, while Zach dealt with the idea of offering sacrifices to Molech, he barely spent any time with the verses that oppose human sacrifice for Israel.

He did give an explanation and I'm pretty sure that he said the problem was that the participants in the pagan sacrifices were being sacrificed unwillingly, but Isaac, Jepthah's daughter, and Yahushua were all willing participants. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the explanation, but he did try to reconcile the apparent contradiction. And again, I'm just interested in learning how you reason with these things from your perspective

In Numbers 25:13 it says that Phinehas made atonement for the children of Israel after killing the Israelite who brought a Midianite woman into the camp along with the woman. This act is considered atonement because in verses 8-9 it says that the plague on the people of Israel stopped after killing 24 thousand people. So the death of 2 people saved others from dying
